I'm 34. Sometimes I feel like I'm 64 and sometimes I feel like I'm 18 again.
Man, there is a sweet ass Ghost Echo in the spam thread. Why does one always pop up in there when I don't have the cash for it? Also, I found that Jaguar on ebay last night for $308 shipped Buy it Now. Someone hit it.

He said that longer scale guitars allow for greater tension at lower tunings. Any veracity to this assertion? Every time I've handled Assface or Tad's Gibsons I can't begin to keep the strings lined up with each other because they're all loosey goosey from tuning lower than a snake's belly. But I've never played lengthy Fenderish axe tuned so low so I just have no frame of reference.
As other guys have said, its more of a balancing act. If you use the same string gauge of different scale length the tensions will go up or down with the different lengths. The same goes for tuning and that is why most people who down tune upgrade the gauge to combat the lack of tension with lower gauge strings. So it all becomes a quest to find which combination is best for you. Right now I am fiddling with my string gauges because I am playing on a 7 string gibson scale, tuned down a step, so it is ADGCFAD. So I am putting much thicker strings on the low A and D to get the proper tension compared to the high A and D which only have 11s and 16s I think. I just ordered some sets from that naked strings someone posted a bit ago and I think I went for the 70 for the 7th string. So I shall see how that turns out.
I'm 26 but my birthday is in a week and a half.
Also you guys were posting that Yamaha SG but have you seen the Reverend semi hollow sg style. It looks pretty cool:

Usually heavy strings can help remedy this, but it's almost always better to extend the scale length if you're down tuning. Thick strings on a Les Paul, for instance, just isn't always practical unless you modify the guitar. Fender guitars, the snap that you hear from them is partly due to the extended scale. It makes the sound clearer, tighter and more immediate. Les Paul's are thick sounding not because of the Mahogany used, which is actually a bright wood at times, is partly due to the neck joint and shorter scale, as well as the pickups. Mahogany has a thick low-midrange, but I have a Telecaster with dark humbuckers made of Mahogany and Ebony. It still sounds like a Telecaster because of the scale length and bolt-on neck joint. Baritones usually have really long piano-like sustain. The thick strings and low tuning add to this, but the scale length probably imparts more than anything else.

I love that guitar so much. I really want one. Probably going to pick up a different Reverend first though.

I have a 25.5 guitar along with 24.75 for everything else I play. There is more tension on the 25.5 with the same strings and tuning but it isn't a huge difference. Not enough to warrant anyone saying tuning lower on 25.5 is more beneficial. Baritone scale lengths would be the ideal suggestion in that argument due to the added inch(s). I still prefer my Gibsons over the Squire
yeah. I like 24.75" better over 25.5" don't know why and on the other hand I like a bari to be 30"

I don't like tele headstocks either.
I'll be 28 in June. My youngest brother in law turns 21 the same day - it's going to be a good birthday

That Reverend is all sorts of awesome.
I have two 24.75 guitars and one 25.5. I'm honestly more comfortable with the 25.5 because I've had it for so much longer than any of the others.
Anybody played a Japanese Epiphone? Supposedly identical to Orville stuff? I really want that green Schecter Tele, but a King Buzzo Les Paul Custom is a force to be reckoned with.

i'm on the look-out for one but if i'm gonna hit it solely due to price it has to be cheaper than prymaxe

you old fart.

That is the cheapest I have found that guitar anywhere. Everywhere else is $399 and up.

My buddy has a Japanese LP with the open book headstock on it. It plays really good but the weight is lighter than my Orville. I don't know if it might be cheaper wood or what but I prefer the weight of my Orville. It is still pretty hefty though.I hate Les Pauls that are light weight. They don't feel real. Everything else about that guitar is pretty sweet. Action, tone, its all there.

Love the body shape!

Always impressed when builders do a
fresh take on classic design...not just altering it to avoid copyright infringement, and not turning it into an amoeba.

Yeah, the guys who build them, Wild Custom Guitars, are really into the old Rickenbacker designs and have customized them quite a bit. I love their design aesthetic. It's only €600 as well. They have the bodies built in Korea and then paint the bodies and set-up the guitar in France by hand. It means you can afford high quality upgrades like Schaller bridges, locking tuning heads, Bare Knuckle pickups, etc.

Huh. Cool.
Also, GO DAM Firebird-meets-Iceman and I love it!

Yeah, that's my favourite of theirs. I heard that Firebird shapes are a pain for playing seated, so I decided against that one.
