Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Man, I'm so frustrated with dirt. I have been looking and looking for the perfect fuzz sound and it still eludes me. The problem is that I keep thinking I have it, and then the next day I'm unhappy with it and I want to try something new.
The only dirt pedal I manage to keep is my Mini, set as a lighter OD. But I need some big roaring fuzz to go with it. Every fuzz I try initially sounds awesome but then I'll notice tiny little insignificant things that bug me, that I'm sure nobody else can hear, and then that's it, I can't un-hear it. It drives me crazy. So crazy.

I always run into a problem with things sounding as good through my big amp as they do through the practice amp. I use only a Fuck and a Mini for dirt. Live/loud it's perfect, but for practice I need something a little bit nastier. Or I can just crank the Mini

Or maybe having just one perfect fuzz isn't your thing. Maybe you need 2 or 3 to change in and out when you get those feels.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Sorry for the double post.
Also re: the gate switch. On the TAFM the switch automatically maxes out the fuzz control and makes the fuzz less dynamic, it either sounda like its on full blast or its dead quite. I like this because it lets the gate switch be also a boost switch if you have the fuzz control turned down a bit normally, but could be too much of a boost if you have the fuzz control turned down to way low gain. Also makes rhythmic playing more fun in my opinion.
Both are great for bass. The ECT is a muff and will behave like one. Loose and huge. I almost always preferred it with the tone blast on because it was just super crushing. The TAFM is more versatile and while it will certianly do a thick, mean fuzz tone that sounds super rad, it's got a different character to it. Cant say one is better than the other, just different. I liked the TAFM at lower gainy settings more than the ECT.Strange Tales wrote:Eau Claire Thunder vs TAFM. I really like the TAFM but I keep on finding myself looking towards the Thunder. Anyone tried both and know what's the good for bass?

Have you considered that maybe you're looking for the perfect distortion sound? That's the problem I had, anyway.neonblack wrote:Man, I'm so frustrated with dirt. I have been looking and looking for the perfect fuzz sound and it still eludes me.
Something like the Elements stacked with a Mini can get really brutal but still be clear/tight enough to not be frustrating. I'd bet that the Mantic Vitriol is tits, too.

I've been wanting to try the Vitriol but I'm worried that it's going to be too scooped. I can't do scoop at all.backwardsvoyager wrote:Have you considered that maybe you're looking for the perfect distortion sound? You need one with a mid-pass filter.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Actually, a band pass filter(i.e. a wah) centered in the mids would create a mid-pass filter.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
yep. dirt pedals usually don't have much EQ control it's crazy how much you can improve something by putting an EQ before or after it. that DOD boneshaker looks neat though for the onboard EQ.Mudfuzz wrote:or just look into parametric EQs...
