And I couldn't resist, I found a deal on a Taiwan HM-2 and ordered it.

I don't need it, as I can conjure up that beast in the rack mount, but...I just wanted it.

I feel that way about a lot of the older Boss pedals that were around before I started "playing" guitar. DD-2, RV-2, RV-3, HF-2, DC-3. I don't need any of them (well maybe the HF-2 as I don't have a flanger right now), but I'd like to give all of them a go because I've heard so many good things about them.

That stuff was all current when I started, I remember getting the little catalogs that they put out at the music store and wishing I had half of it.

And then drooling at the first multi-fx.

A few of those, I've bought because I could over the years, but ...the pedals, I know well.

HM-2 was the default weird noise/psychedelic/shoegaze pedal of its era - cheap, functional, and you could find it everywhere.

So, I've had a DD-7 and liked it. I have a DD-500 now and like it although it has way more stuff than I'll ever use and I kinda like the simplicity of the DD-7. Is the difference between the DD-2 and DD-7 night/day, aside from the extra modes of the DD-7?

Not sure, haven't touched a DD-7 - my delay needs are taken care of, and the DD-500 killed itself from my list when Roland backtracked on having a editor for it.

DD-2 and -3 are basic, simple digital delay units with limited time and function.

I dunno, I like the DD-5, that's my jam, the perfect charismatic digital delay with a beautiful reverse mode to boot.
The DD-2 / DD-3 isn't so special, in my opinion the DSD-2 / DSD-3 is cooler then.

A friend is giving me an old DS-1 whenever we get the occasion to meet at his place. I'll get to confirm first hand on my rad rig that it is lame.

Falls just right though, I wanted some ugly distorsion and was looking for a used HM-3 or MT-2 on the cheapos.

The long chip DD-2 and early MIJ DD-3 has a really good sound! That's why I have a long chip DD-3 AND a DD-7. The old rather lo-fi sounding delay chip creates echoes that actually sound more natural, because they are no crystal clear repeats. I really, really like that model, especially on stage when I need something with just a few simply laid out options.

Yeah, they have the same "long chip". I've got one of both and they're indeed the same, btw.

Been thinking about getting a DF-2 lately. They're old enough that they run on 12v aca adapter. I'm using a OneSpot for a power supply. I've read that if you have a daisy-chained power supply that having another, newer, Boss pedal in the chain (which I do have) will clear up any power supply issues. Is this correct? Does it matter if the newer pedal is in front of or behind the older pedal in the chain?

There's also one up on reverb that the seller modded to psa 9v. Would that be a reasonable purchase or are the complications with doing this that I'm not considering?

The older stuff, if you chain it it's typically ok, order doesn't seem to matter.

That said, I've run most of the older Boss stuff I've had that required ACA off batteries as they all have been dirtboxes or during the pre-pedalboard era.

This is totally correct. I use my ACA pedals with a daisy-chained power supply or with batteries. I don't have an ACA-type power supply and this way I cannot accidentally fry a PSA-type pedal.
