also the room you are in will have more effect if you use that kind off the cab condenser micing so results will be highly variable. I try to use that method when I do gear demos so things sound more like what I am hearing rather than manipulating it to sound like something else.

Definitely will keep that in mind...I try and keep recording to the closest representation of what we are going to sound like live as possible.

Recently saw a band live that I was really stoked on after hearing their demo and ended up talking to the dudes before they played and when I expressed that the demo was what coerced my attendance that evening I was met with a "ah so we fooled you!" which I was a bit put off by, but didn't pay much mind to...then they played...and I was like...yep...you definitely did fool me.

Usually this is semi-bearable to me if A) The band is humble about it, B) The live sound is better than the recording or even slightly resembles it or C) if it sounds completely different at least for it to be balanced to some extent. This was not the case. Let's put it this way...im not sure you should be playing doom(at least live) if you are going to use 2 LP Customs both on the bridge pup with tone all the way up through a myriad of digital FX into Mesa heads. It's a shame though...the drummer and bassist have a lot of chemistry and a great sound together just begging for well-seasoned top-end section.

yea it will all boil back to experimentation but personally i have found that approach successful.

Here's a project my little bro and I have been working on utilizing a similar principal but with my previous idea of on-axis for the higher end track and off-axis for the lower(both 57s) then panned, bass recorded two tracks, amp used was a marshall lead 20 we found in a dumpster...I don't think we spent more than $100 any piece of gear used in recording this, it was kind of an experiment to try and develop some huge sounding results with the most unassuming gear.

Also since it applies and rarely is there an audience that would be stoked on such a thing...but the other concept behind the project is a storyline involving Hashmouth(the project title), an age old wizard born in the first fields of weed who quickly consumes so much marijuana and hash he becomes the living construct of it and attains immortality. Year after year dedicated stoners make their pilgrimage to his hash-throne to present him with their finest hash to see if they are worthy of the approval of the hash-god they worship knowing that the penalty of inferior hash is death...which is always...the only hash that can truly satisfy Hashmouth is that which is concentrated by his metabolism and oozes from every orifice of his body due to his frenzied rate of consumption resulting in the eternal throne of hash he sits upon. without further adieu:

This vid was awesome. Definitely gonna go back and try that phase flip, find worst tone with that mic flipped, unflip and PRESTO! Magic tone! on some of the stuff I have.
