Maybe im not really doing it right but it seems like blocking is almost useless. Its like the animation for blocking takes so long that theres just no way I can pull it off in combat. the shield sign works but the combat strategy just seems to be fast attack/dodge/igni over and over. Anything else gets me fucked up real quick.

Same here. Fast attack and Igni, except when a wraith requires an Yrden or some Grapeshot needs throwing.
Ingi's second tier flame thrower attack is real dope in a one on one, though.

If you're playing on PC (like I am) you definitely need to rebind some keys to suit your playstyle. I've set the Dodge and Parry keys to the m4/m5 buttons on my mouse, then replaced the Witcher Sense with the Heavy Attack on the right mouse. I wanted it as close to Witcher 2, which I loved. The only difference between this and the 2nd game is that I actually use Potions and traps. Though, there's certainly a learning curve to the game - I didn't even realize that you could loot the Monster nests after you blow them up after I destroyed 10 of them. I was probably more invested in the story than the game play initially. I've read the books and everything so i've just been wowed a lot.

I'd recommend investing in the Quen and Aard spells mostly. Quen is super handy for large but weak mobs and Aard is great to knock and enemy straight to the ground, then instakill stab them. Wear Heavy armour, then boost your magic stats by chaining the Blue Mutagens.

All of the Witcher games have a pretty steep learning curve though, I wouldn't worry.

If you are running it on PC, i'd recommend playing with this. Just adds to the gloominess

You can actually just keep holding down block while you're attacking, or hell all the time. Often you can only block the first strike but that gives you enough time to sidestep the next.

I really wanted to like witcher 2, but the clunky combat just ruined it for me. Especially since I started playing it after devoting massive hours to dark souls 1 and 2, which have great combat. I made a deal with myself that after I defend my thesis in July, I am going to buy either some guitar stuff or a ps4 / bloodborne... God I can't wait!

Why aren't there more romantic games....

I didn't care for Witcher 2, either. So 3 doesn't interest me in the slightest. Picked up Dark Souls 2 for PS4 over the weekend. After playing Bloodborne for a couple months, it's nice to go back to Souls.

How's DS2 with the ridiculous new enemy placement?

I am also curious about this. I wanted to play it again, but I think I will wait until I can get it for ps4 with all the changes. I still haven't played the newer scholar of the first sin stuff.

Haha it's not that ridiculous for the most part. There's some shit that has made me jump just because I wasn't expecting certain enemies to be in certain spots, but overall it's solid. Pretty much the same game with some small tweaks. The Pursuer definitely pursues the fuck outta you way more in Scholar of the First Sin.

Great, now I have the post-game Witcher 3 blues - got a pretty good realistic ending, but I kind of like I want to replay the game differently rather than just exploring.

I've finished the game that was supposed to hold me over until MGS5 in a week. :idk:
