It's not an "effect", it's a tool... I wouldn't call proper EQ'ing an effect but drastic EQ can be, just like drastic compression can be... It sounds good on drums for that pumping bass that's used in Hip-Hop and Dance music... Disco wouldn't exist without drastic compression pumpage...

Yeah I understand that Soni, I was giving the less technical descript of why I think I like them. I've never actually owned one.
and I also agree that they're intended use is for utility more than as an effect, but that's only intended use ofc

Yeah it's all good, I'll just never understand what all the confusion's about... There is a standard joke about engineers saying they understand compression when no one ever really understands it or something??? It's as much of an effect as a D.I. I guess, they're both in small boxes that you plug your guitar into...

With guitar, some people use them to make up for not-so-good playing technique because they'll even out the volume spikes in your playing. Works well for certain playing styles.
I used to used one when tapping, set up so that it would boost the volume and make each passage come out relatively even. Stopped cos i don't like cheating
I dunno, compressors are useful but I try to avoid them as much as possible when recording.

I do this sometimes, because I tend to have the nuanced touch of a brotosaurus on downers.
Also super helpful if you're playing a stringy-thingy with dead spots on the fretboard and don't have time to do a setup.

Compressors are really good for clean tapping though. But otherwise... Meh.

I like the Faith No More cover of War Pigs better than the original.

I like when I hear Cocteau Twins in a book store, or Portishead... Perfect book music...
Also I like Drop Ninteens version of Angel better than Madonnas...

The only computer game I ever loved is Baldurs Gate. I have downloaded it some days ago and am completely nerding out on it. I have started the game about seven times so far, because I never know what kind of character I should play. I kight make it this time, because Ive constructed a character around my fave custom portrait available for download.
Now I just want to lock myself in and play that shebang.

I'm not wearing pants right now.
Only knee-high striped socks and underwear.
Also, long socks + shorts combo = BEST COMBO

Feel kind of horrible. Seems like my wife is scheming to buy me something rather large for Christmas and I've got nothing saved at all
