Me too? I'm sure there's nothing wrong with their music, it's just targeted at a very different world than the one i inhabit.

It's funny you guys mention the Dead; I have been OBSESSED with them lately -- totally inexplicable.
I found out that there Aoxomoxoa was remixed in the early 70s sometime, and the original mix never made it to CD. A rip from vinyl of the original mix is on youtube somewhere, and it destroys the remix, in my opinion.
I've been especially interested in their late 70s nihilist speedball phase, live-wise. The records they made then were outrageously uneven (Terrapin, Shakedown, etc.).
This all constitutes an unpopular musical opinion rather than an album opinion, of course.
Also, that covers record sucks.

Any one else think the new Mastodon album it total GARBAGE! it sounds like they took a dump in a bag and recorded Kirk Hammet singing along to it.

I went from liking it, to deciding it was decidedly average. To be fair, im very meh about mastodon anyway, so I might be biased. Like the idea of them more than the actual music I guess.

Don't think I've listened to MASTODON since 'Crack The Sky'. Don't think I want to. LEVIATHAN is still an A+ album though. I rip off the guitar parts from 'Sea Beast' like it's my job.
Now for the unpopular opinion. I enjoy post 'Tanx' T. REX. Especially 'Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow'

This isn't a noise board so this comment won't be as 'controversial' here. I think PRURIENT is only getting better with each album. UNMASKING THE INSECT is my favorite tape of his.
EDIT: One more for fun.
I personally enjoy Alessandro Cortini's solo material substantially more than anything NIN put out.

That is not unpopular that is good taste.
Haven't listened to Prurient beyond the Profound Lore album that got all kinds of kudos a year or two ago, but I'm not big on song-y noise stuff for the most part. Which ones should I check out?

Load is some of Metallica's best work.

Answer in NSFW cause I don't want to take up too much space.
Oh dear has it been that long since FROZEN NIAGRA FALLS came out? Yikes!
I love UNMASKING THE INSECT. It came out that same year as FNF (within two months? On the TESCO [GENOCIDE ORGAN's label]) and I thought it was way better. It's different. I dubbed it 'Introspective Power Electronics'. UNKNOWN RAINS is a cool exercise of form. You might not like it cause it is sort that 'Post Techno, Noise' sort of thing. He apparently did an album last year on FREAK ANIMAL (GRUNT's label) I am yet to listen to but it will probably be awesome.
I hear you on 'song-y noise' although I do like that form. The sort of 'Introspective Power Electronics' meets 'sound collage' is my preferred form. One of my favorite PRURIENT tapes is ANSWER TO GOD which I highly recommend (sort of peak HOSPITAL error [although I would argue they are in a second peak now].
I know I told you to check out LUSSURIA and HOSPITAL just release a whole slew of his tapes. It's taking every ounce of my being not to purchase.
Lastly, I know you a HNW guys so I 'think' you would love the VOMIR/Yoshihiro Kikuchi split. I posted this in the Black Metal thread. If you can't find a download, hit me up, I think I have it on my mediafire.
Keeping to the theme of the thread...OBSCURED BY CLOUDS is my favorite PINK FLOYD album. It sounds like a completely different band!
Jay Reatard's best work (it's all amazing) were his singles.

I am firmly of the opinion that during the writing period, Hetfueld should have heard his demos for Mama Said, dissolved the band and started his career as an alt country god.

I raise you one...LULU is some of METALLICA's best work! Not Lou Reed's though. His albums are very dear to me (not that METALLICA's aren't)
The Scott Walker/ SUNN O))) collab has my favorite SUNN O))) guitar parts. If TOBACCO's 'Ultima ll Massage' had not come out that year, the collar would have been my favorite record of 2014.

Holy shit, thank you. I could never pin down what exactly that feeling was with Mastodon. I've been that way with them since Blood Mountain.

What a write up! Will investigate throughout the day (I don't have a cassette player in the new apt. though)

And I'll raise you. I personally don't like ANY pink floyd's albums. I honestly don't think they are even that talented.
Here is another U2...I despise all of their material except 4 songs off Achtung Baby. GO!
