Oh how I miss Swedish candy. That is like the only thing I actually miss from Sweden here.

I actually liked the salty licorice that my friends brought from Denmark.

Goroth sent me a package of that with a pedal...it takes you by surprise, but is pretty good. My favorite was getting my unsuspecting friends, coworkers, and wife try it.

I came back to the fold for this. Two years ago, my post count was too low. Last year, I was unemployed. This year, I want to put my festivity in someone's face.

I had to google muddy buddy. Sounds very sweet (yet delicious). We don't have surströmming here. It's a Swedish thing. Swedes have rotten herring, Iceland has rotten shark, we have cod in lye, and Denmark...hmmm. Denmark has...danish? Man, Danes have had it easy.

Haven't thought about muddy buddies in years.

Palate now consumed with regret.

Right? I probably mention them like once a week but never make them...

And those Icelanders are devious. Feeding people poisonous under-aged shark so they go blind and walk into a volcano or get eaten by ponies.

Surströmming is eaten where I am, but I think it's more popular in the north. Apparently it tastes good but I can't get past the smell. It fucking stinks. You can easily smell it from over 100 metres away on a wind free day.

Pickled herring on the other hand can be really good. Strömming is just a herring from the Bothnian Sea. The brännvin (akvavit) cuts through the fatty fish perfectly and the strong herbaceous tone is also a good counterpoint to the fishiness of the herring.
