https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_Gu ... _coup_d%27état One of the oversimplifying, though "fun," narratives of the 54 coup was that United Fruit got the CIA involved because it was pissed off that their land was nationalized in the agrarian reform and they were not duly compensated--they only got paid what they said the value was for tax assessment purposes.

Yes, Zinn makes a lot good points in 'A people's history.'
I'd encourage people to check out the work of Adam Curtis and his BBC documentaries. His most recent - "Bitter Lake" Is about US/Saudi relations and how during FDR's presidency, there was a forming of the relationship between our nations which still exists today and the repercussions of which we are seeing today in terms of Islamism.
The US and other countries' support/installation of dictators in the Middle East definitely has influenced how Islam has been perceived by Muslims and how "the west" is to be perceived. Islamism is older than the Colonialism often referred to - in recently history; 15/16th century colonialism.
There is a good article about the politicalization of Islam regarding the Hijab. It was international "Wear a hijab" day not too long ago and some Muslim women asked other women not to wear it:

When the fuck did we start doing that? Quite the other way, usually. Did I Rip VanWinkle that shit? (I certainly don't think Operation Enduring Wishful Thinking counts as seriously attempting to actually do anything but bomb the bejesus out of a country for the lulz, tho.)
I think Theodore Roosevelt was the first true imperial US president. All since have been. Kind of the starting point of the conflation of 'national security' with the economic well being of private US companies.
Career politicians are cancer. All of them. Does that make Trump best? hmmm...
PS- Constitutional Republic. The majority crushes the minority in democracies. Democracy suxxx.

Dude.....really? South America ringing any bells?
That was pretty much exactly my point...
Right, I think we're all on the same page, just suffering from communication breakdown.

That never happens here

oh yeah, plus at some point you either have to accept that Hilary has been intentionally hiding information or that she is an old grandma that can't use e-mail. There isn't really a justification in the middle.

Not really dropping the ball. Sanders is just becoming more realistic as a winning candidate, so a lot of democrats who were begrudgingly supporting Hilary as an inevitability are turning to Bernie like they secretly have wanted to this whole time (at least that's where I am).
As in, it's not the campaign, it's the candidate.

As much as I am personally behind Sanders, I think he is too far left for the swing votes and left leaning conservatives. He is the liberal Donald Trump (a tad bit less extreme in what comes out of his mouth).
No, we've got a reputation for being a "big small town", even today. You just can't take the bush league out of the town, I guess. I mean, we had the Jo days in the 70s/80s and then a few years ago we became the stronghold for Can do Campbell, who was trying his best to be Jo, but was somehow more of a cunt about it because he had zero swagger. It's quite conservative here, compared to places down south.
