And just like that, I have a track! Once I had all my chunks open in front of me in Audacity, things fell together pretty quickly.

(I also generated an "out-take" — one manipulated track that's so pretty on it's own I'll need to find something separate to do with it!)

Okay, so there are four completed tracks at hand, and I just sent out three gently-cajoling PM's.

On the home stretch, folks!

I will try and send individual reminders/encouragements later today. (And thanls to those who are done.)

Important question: anyone interested in working up an album cover?
By good fortune / the universe hates me, I am learning cloud rendering at the moment so I can teach it next year to my students... so I am combining the learning with making some nice 3D renders of clouds, so I can make them form interesting shapes / numbers / letters etc if that is of interest?

Here's a test of a doughnut / torus cloud for example
Image

I could stack five of them on top of each other and then put a camera below looking up through the hole in the middle, maybe have some nice sunset sidelighting? Or another thought would be 5 clouds in a row growing from smaller to larger? Or we could go full prog rock and make a giant 5 in the shape of a cloud (kind of like Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells cover!

i had to face facts, accept that i don't have any way to do a track and get it uploaded effectively including editing, and cleared everything from the loopers' memories. next time i'll have some kind of home studio thing happening with my old c.2010-15 tech and actually be able to produce and shit. hope my samples were of use.

Mmmm, torus.

Looks cool, I like the grain of it.

I'd say run with it! Don't overwork yourself, but fiddle around and send us what you like the best.

Meanwhile, album deadline is floating for a sec, I have one track I'm still waiting for and we'll do one more prod for the awol peeps tonight.

Howabout this? If it's too weird, I could easily make some more normal 'cloud' shape clouds and put them in a line across a sky (5 of them for Okta 5) just different shapes and sizes.
Oh depending on the resolution of your screen it migth appear cropped - you migth have to right click the image and ask it to show in another tab / window or download it and look at it. Feel free to add comments / ideas.

Thanks very much! My wife said something similar - it made her think of a CD that had been deep fried in batter! As a fan of both CDs and Doughnuts, I am happy :) I made some small adjustments to the image - managed to reduce the noise a bit and also paint out a few annoying straggly bits.

Very cool!

And a bit of a Rorschach test, maybe — the smallest 'o' immediately made me think of a reel in a cassette tape.

Thanks Dubkitty and Heraclitus - you both saw things in it that I didn't! I'm working on a close up shot that still has five rings of clouds but no blue space around the edges - just a central blue area. I worked out how to speed the renders up a fair bit (the above image takes 14.5 hours to render on my laptop!) and I think that a close up could now be rendered within 6 hours (give or take, I need to increase the quality in parts for a close up or the clouds start looking like they are made of thousands of smudgy cubes (which they are, but that doesn't look good). Is that sort of thing interesting? Or is the above image any good for the cover? Or would you prefer to see a more normal cloud?

Folks might have noticed a lack of updates here, though there has been some back-channel action. I had some personal busy-ness that bumped this down a couple notches on my list, but I've also been clear (hopefully!) from the start that this is not a rush-rush situation.

As things have bumped along this far, it seems sensible to continue not rushing. Bandcamp Fridays return after the summer, so I'm now thinking we should release this on the first one back, Friday, September 6th.

Makes sense to me! Don't see any need to rush
