And yes, this is a great time to realize that Minis are super hype ultra melon 'spensive now.
Okay, but what about a *fun* overdrive pedal?

Updated the first post because I just couldn't bring myself to spend time searching for the initial suggestions. I need some fun in my life, gosh darnit!

You won't regret having one of these:Eivind August wrote:What I "need" is low-to-mid gain, treble and bite, note definition for chords, all that boring stuff. Bonus if it can do some fun stuff as well.

Forget about the "dumble tone" stuff, and don't think too hard about most of the demo videos out there because they're done by toan goblins who don't know how to riff. But this thing is a riff machine, and yes it djents. All gain settings are useful, and at higher gain/higher presence settings the low pass filter is great for cleaning up fizz. At low gain settings it's very amp-like, and the gain is at Unity when all the way down. I own multiple versions of the Lotus and they all fuck.
Here's a sloppy demo I did some years ago with the older, dual version of the Lotus:

what about the eqd special cranker? (i think it wasnt out when this thread started?)
so hard to tell what a fun od pedal is its almost in the ballpark of a fun volume pedal except with less magnets.

I must agree with the Special Kranker mention, but only because I love the 250 circuit, less because EQD
You really can't go wrong with a 250 - there is a cheapo ORANJ kolored juan that Amzn sells for about $25 (clone of a clone of clone at this point) that keeps tempting me, but I'll probably krush it with my feet (begs for a rehouse, preferably in YELLA).
But yeah, magnets are fun, yellow honkin' ODs are, too, but this all makes me wish the SSBS MINI was not such a tall glass of kroner lately
Even the MINI clones have disappeared from Reverb lately, which I guess imparts how close they were to the OG, parts-wise (still better than an Eventide DSP wonder, but you'd think they'd sell a standalone Crushstation pedal at this point).

i think just makkng an 250 would be cheaper than rehousing a 25 dollar clone.
as ive understood the lack of mini clones on the verb is not due to parts but "other" reasons

Hmmm. Maybe making (or having someone with skills make) a ducked up two-fiddy might be the play.
Will be checking out the Lotus Drive as well, thanks for the tip!

I've got a dirt cheap 250 for sale right now. I know shilling is bad but no one logs in here anymore so I should be able to get away with it, and also I'm facilitating fun overdrive.
Music out on all streaming services and bandcamp and what not.

I did see and consider that one, but since this is for a very specific board configuration I kinda need top jacks for the aesthetics (and ease of cabling).
Also, reporting you to the authorities for trying to help.
Oh, and the Special Cranker does seem like it would do the trick, albeit without much fun involved. Good suggestion.

i like the demos of speshy cranky, and a friend loves theirs, but have been burned before by demos not really reflecting the sound of a thing through my gear, y'know? that's why i usually buy on guts these days. also every way huge OD i've tried is uhhhh really good, if not necessarily "fun"

Get a Klon(e).
Cheap, will get you where you're looking most likely.

Not sure if there are any used Yellow Spiral Drives in Europe. But that is a revamped 250 circuit that might be worth a look.Eivind August wrote:EDIT:
and 250 it seems
Also... some form of stacking low-gain drives/EQs maybe could get you the note definition and specific grind/grit level you seek?
For that application I sometimes have run a Rat with gain low into/after a Barber Dual UnLTD for various levels of grit/grind/texture.
Adding a Green Ringer somewhere in that Rat's nest opens even more snaky shades of quiver and semidemiquaver of "hair".
Depending on how vacant your ghost town, sometimes a wind-torn tumbleweed crafted out of tinfoil and tinsel resonates just right against the lonesome whistle of that distant steam train cresting the horizon (audio equivalent of Train Dreams by Denis Johnson).
