GC is like any other store to me - a whole lot depends on the kind of people that actually work there.
also, the next douchebag to tell me i'm 'hiding' behind effects and then tries to be like hendrix WILL find out what my knuckles taste like.
i can't help but wonder why that happens so goddamn often

Does this really happen alot - people telling you that you are "hiding behind your effects pedals?"

When I got my Superdelay, my friend thought it was way too expensive for an effect pedal. We then messed around with it for the next two hours. It was GREAT. I still do that from time to time when I can.

Those Kinsella boys are ridiculous. How can 1 family (2 brothers and a cousin) be apart of so many good bands?
ILF definitely needs a Kinsella appreciation thread. Entirely too good.

Even effects junkies are guilty of similar comments...just check out any thread involving a DAM fuzz or a klon...somebody is bound to bring up how you are using your rich lawyer money to make up for a lack of skill.
It's almost as if people are insulted by what you do with YOUR gear.

It’s gear snobbery, it works in forward and in reverse.
If you have inexpensive gear you can’t be any good because I have X, Y & Z.
If your gear cost more than mine, you can’t be any good because you’re a spoiled rich puke.
You have effects then you can’t have talent.. “I don’t use effects”
If you don’t have this or that particular effect you can’t be any good because (Insert guitar/bass gods name here) uses one and so do I.
But at the end of the day, a great guitarist (musician) can make crap sound beautiful and a bad musician just sounds bad with $100,00 worth of equipment.

You're a rich lawyer?

No, lol.

I just don't like it when people insult others for having expensive/boutique gear.
The friend I was talking about hates boutique pedals for some reason. He will only buy Dano pedals or multi-fx. If you own a boutique pedal he will criticize you for trying to be "alt", when he has a song entitled "1-800-THISISWHATFMRADIODOESNTSOUNDLIKE".

That’s why I don’t have ink or ride my Harley much, don’t want people thinking I’m a lawyer or a dentist, I avoid taking boutique pedals to blues jams too (just avoid the jams actually).
