Thanks for the information both of you! Much though I'd love to own one, I've got to hold on to the money; I'm saving for a Paranormal Offset Telecaster for my birthday - I must not get distracted! I bought my son a Squier Strat for his birthday and it blows all the other electric guitars we own out of the water and I made the mistake of trying the telecaster in the same shop and really wanting it... so it's saving time!
The lapsteel gets added to the list of other instruments I want (a saz, a harmonium, a double bass etc)... one day
Actually to keep this more on point; is it time to start downloading other collaborator's music yet?

Looking through the google drive, I see this:
Has uploaded stuff:

Feel free to check in with your status, peeps in the second list!
With me getting in late, I unfortunately didn't have time to complete anything. I will keep a look out for part 4 though and look forward to supporting part 3!

With the proviso that we may yet get last-minute sounds from three as-yet-uncommitted peeps, grab away from what's there, I'd say. I'll do the same for myself in the next day or two... I like to take the sounds for a walk and try and think on which sounds I want to fold and layer.

No worries, the goal is not to create pressure on people!

I uploaded a few more sounds to my folder. Took the Lyra out and recorded some random stuff plugged into a ottobit to try and see if I could get anything with some better sound quality. It didn't go very well in that aspect but I will say that I am enrolled in a few music production classes this coming semester so hopefully the end result will turn out better and next time I will be able to contribute something a little better

Okay... I put everyone else's sounds on my music player — they're gonna go with me on my walk the next couple days and I'll take notes when I hear sounds that register.
Hope y'all are puttering along with your own processes!

My son and I have put about 4 minutes worth of music together so far, and it's going really well, just needs a lot of volume mixing and EQ and we will be done soon! It was quite a challenge; this year's samples were harder (for us anyway) to work with than the previous year's, and I think if we can do this again next year (hopefully!) then I think people should try to submit two kinds of track - one unprocessed raw instrument and the other blasted with effects, because we have found it very difficult to work with tracks that have loads of effects on them already - it's hard to mix them together (well for us it is, maybe it's easy for those of you with more software / mixing skills or better software). I think it would be interesting to try what Heraclitus suggested previously to use maybe acoustic recordings or clean instrument sounds - this would enable a wider variety of later processing in our opinion. Anyway we're looking forward to hearing what everyone else gets up to

My son and I have finished our track

Let us know when you want to hear it / where you want us to put it. We used one shot store hits 2 by cantremember, Okta3-Phase1-KAk-lap steel fragments #1 by Heraclitus Akimbo, lofi guitar loop by manymanyhaha, OAM-Okta-01 and Rising of the Moon-05 by old angel midnight, barely by the bright undead, source coldbrightsunlight by coldbrightsunlight and two of our own samples as well. Looking forward to hearing your creations!

Cool, I will assemble the "finished" folders probably tomorrow-ish.

I haven't looked at
this year's tracks yet but I agree that sometimes the simplest source samples can be the easiest and most fun to work with. Not that the elaborate ones aren't sometimes great! But yeah maybe if everyone was encouraged to do a simple clean thing as well as a big thing

i apologize, but as often happens i over-promised in terms of what i was able to do. i should probably stop signing up for this sort of thing until/unless my home recording thing is better sorted. sorry, folks.

Nah, no worries! Ain't no one put out that real life intervenes.

I am soo, hugely and deeply sorry.
I have disappeared in the last weeks, and totally forgot about Okta 3. I haven't touched guitars nor pedals for almost the whole month, and just started playing again this week, but the chances for me to actually open the pc at home and record something decent in the next few days are less than zero, so i have to back out this time.
I am gonna regret this but the timing couldn't be worse.
I am still looking forward to listening to the tracks, as I regularly spin the previous albums especially while reading or cooking.

Had a brief chance to mess with a couple of folks' tracks for a couple of hours the other night and I apologize, I completely misunderstood the task of providing tracks to you all. I misinterpreted "shorter is better" as being loops.

Yeah, umm no.

Oh well.
But don't matter. Luckily others know what they are doing and I got some stuff I liked pretty quickly. Now I understand: A relatively short piece, free of effects. But not loops.
