Bro they're average to good band. Some good instrumentals if you're high and good vocals

The vocals are the worst part for me...and I generally like that vocal style. It just does not match the music in any way. It's like...clearly emotional instrumentals that are meant to be profound...then a dude doing a wack Immortal impression starts quacking all over them for no reason. You mentioned that they sound like a screamo band...yeah, if they had that kind of vocals I might feel differently. But then there wouldn't be all the normie music press hailing them for being some kind of revolutionary hybrid or whatever. They would just be a decent melodic screamo band in the vein of Envy.

I mean, who can say if they would've blown up or not if they were seen as skramz. The shrieks go between the two, so naturally picked the more extreme one, and also they had longer songs so people know about post metal but not post skramz, not a lot of people know about that apart from OG skramrz bros, yet post skramz has been around longer than post metal. City of Caterpillar, a few songs by Pageninetynine or Kodan Armada count as post skramz. Im prolly forgetting a lot, and these are bands back in the day. Now theres way more post skramz bands, thats also combine it with post rock, shoegaze, all sorts.

Also mathgaze or that type of emotive indie rock / math rock with shoegaze becoming a thing.

The genre I want to do is a combo of math (not necessarily rock but math in nature) and ethereal wave. I guess I should call it mathwave? I dunno, if someone have a better name.

I mean City Of Caterpillar is a pretty new band compared to, say, Souls at Zero, so I don’t know about your timeline there.

I would just make the music and leave the genre names to the people who make this shit up for marketing?

i will say Defenders of the Faith kind of falls flat by the end of the record. Rock Hard Ride Free is a fuckin' banger though.....

Oof. I actually saw Deafheaven at some point, and the whole band just looked bored the whole show, except the singer who kept jumping around pointing his fingers at his own head like they were a gun. It was single-handedly the most embarassing performance I've ever witnessed. I've never heard them recorded, but I remember being surprised to hear people calling them "black metal". I would've said embarassing nu-metal revival, based on the show.

They are post-skramz alt rock with vocals that has black metal / skramz hybrid.

Anyway, the point is, so many fucking dorks on this site were making fun of their combo of genres and their dress sense. How fucking sad and pathetic. Like dressing like a weirdo satanist goth isn't even more embarrassing and sad than dressing like a normal person. Falling for a bunch of dorks elitist nerds who are like "iz not real black metal duuuuuuh". Fucking nerds.

I don't give a shit about their fashion sense. I just said they were boring live. It was pretty clear that even they thought so. I'm not gonna lie, I was turned off by the singer doing pistol fingers at his head every 30 seconds too, but otherwise my opinion of them is mostly just "meh". I don't have any specific dislike for them. I also don't have any specific dislike for you, for the record, despite your defensiveness. You came out of the gates swinging pretty pretentiously, and you're getting ribbed for it, but you seem like an okay dude who just hasn't worked out the tone here yet.
