This is why its my favorite drive pedal, subs switch for the win!!

I just built a clone of a fairfield barbershop and it's a surprisingly nice li'l OD. Colours the sound in a pleasant way and 'stacks well' as they would say at t g p. Might not get distorted enough to do full-on distortion duty, but I can see why it gets so many props as the left-field always on choice.

That said, for $50 used or whatever, I really think you'd be hard pressed to find a better-sounding, more-versatile, useful dirt pedal than a blues driver.

According to the internet the BD-2 and OD-3 are similar to the Distortron I just bought, though they supposedly have a tad less gain/lows.
Obviously won't stop me from also trying out both Boss pedals

I own an old Boss OD2r Turbo Overdrive (which I modded a bit to get a bit more low-end).
I love it because it can be gentle and bluesy but also go over the top and deliver huge grinding distortions.
Also the BSRI SFG can do some very nice low gain sounds (plus it has a clean blend, which let's you use it as clean booster too!)

I used to have also a SD2 Dual Overdrive, but it was too polite for my taste, so I gave that to a friend who's playing in an all-girl punk band, and she loves it!
Both Crunch and Lead channels deliver exactely the sounds she was looking for!

In general these old Boss overdrives are very cool pedals! Such a same Boss stopped making them!

Distortron is essentially 3 SHOs stacked together.

BD-2 is a bunch of discrete op amps.

Yes: with synths OD2r is amazing too!!!
This was my second pedal ever (I first got a Boss MT2, but it was too harsh for my taste back then). Funny story: I got it thinking it was the distortion pedal used by Kurt Cobain (from the pictures in the From The Muddy Banks of the Wishkah booklet it was not so clear but it looked like it ), but found out later he was using a DS2. Then I sold the OD2r and got the DS2 (this like 24 years ago, eheh).
But since you never forget your first love, I got one again last year (from a japanese ebay, with free shipping for 50$!): Best 2nd hand buy ever!
