Sounds to me like you should do an ILFcast about it. (serious)

Get out from behind your fucking keyboard and actually do something instead of bitch and moan that a pedal shouldn’t have the word pussy on it. Who fucking cares and why do you care? The atrocities of this world are so much greater than this mundane bullshit.
jwar I thought everyone was just posting stuff and saying they personally find certain names tasteless and would therefore choose personally not to buy that stuff. That's what the thread is for. Not "getting offended" or witch hunts or whatever, of which I've seen no evidence. :idk:

"I find the name of this pedal distasteful, therefore I won't buy one".

Characterising this as somehow taking up time that could hypothetically have been spent caring about something truly important is silly.

I think those are dumb too. But the difference is that I certainly don't have 45s like that *on stage when I'm performing*. There's a difference between listening to a 45 with fucked up song titles in private, and being on stage playing a "Pussy Melter" or whatever at a show with impressionable 16 year boys who think that's cool, or whatever. Of course, you could just give it a paint job or whatever. But like UglyCasanova said—the names are still bad ideas.

I've felt that way back in the Devi days.... I also feel that way about pedal art. I dislike most of it. I really only like stuff like old MXR and moogers, They are boring looking but they do what you need.. vs

On the one hand, I really want to bring up kaeth's repeated bad-faith argument, especially that he seems to think that Olin's a rape-excusing sexist now?
On the other hand, we're arguing about a brand whose name is Modern Amphibious Sexcite Forces. :erm:

This type of pedantry is really where you want to take the discussion? That the plundering kind of rape is not sexually violating? And that makes it fine?
Olin wrote:he could have chosen to A) not care and continue to use the name because he liked the sound of the word and how it fit in with his producr and acknowledged that words can have more than one meaning or B) apparently committed to his hatred of women by naming his pedal maliciously and normalising rape culture via boutique effects pedals in Japan.
It was likely A. No one has disputed that. In fact, it's the same thing I just said. No one said he hates women. You're the one who keeps escalating. Good intentions don't launder the effects of problematic behaviour. Rape culture is not the product of malicious woman-hating, and yet, it exists. The reason for discussing it is just to advocate for a position that throwing rape around indiscriminately should not have some sort of absolute protection from criticism. My goal is really only to talk about it, so that the next time someone googles "raptio" they might find this thread, and be presented with dissenting views that may lead them to reconsider. Your goal seems to be to shut down all criticism, instead of just letting people read it and decide for themselves.
Olin wrote:calling people trolls for disagreeing with you is pretty fuckin' rude, there's no need for that.
I was saying that a pedal manufacturer that used a tasteless name and then hid behind "intention" would be trolling - and even that was hypothetical. I didn't realize that the word "troll" was so much more upsetting than rape. I'm sorry. My intent wasn't to offend so harshly, but I'll reconsider my behaviour if it's that problematic. It's the least I could do, really.
On mobile so can't be bothered to edit the post.

I don't think using words correctly, especially with historic context is pedantry, and I also didn't say that it was fine if so.

I don't think I was escalating but being condescendingly told that rape culture exists is unnecessary, at no point have I contested that. I've had no such desire to shut down talks about it nor indicate as such, I just provided my opinion and reasoning and we disagree quite clearly (none of that so much as hinting at I wanted people to not talk about it).

In the last paragraph your sarcasm has lost me completely. I'm more than happy to talk to anyone here about anything, but only if we're talking as equals and with some respect. Seeing as you want to be snarky and patronising in response to my post I really don't have any desire to argue with someone so petulant, and think it's a shame it had to devolve to that.

I apologise to anyone who wasn't in the mood for any of this and for darkening the thread a bit.

Sarcasm? No. Snarkyness? Yeah, I'll cop to that. I'm doing the thing that I think people who bend over backwards to defend rape culture should consider. You wanted to turn it around on me by making me seem like an aggressor. You expected me to go low and retaliate and wind up looking like a hypocrite. You left me one move. It's an intentional display, but it's not disingenuous. I take criticism to heart. I don't think anyone here is a troll, and I will no longer use it lightly if it's going to create hostility. I like this place and the people in it, disagreements aside.

Having not looked it up prior to this thread, I always associated "Raptio" as an amalgamation of RAPTOR (bird, or more specifically a type of dinosaur) and FELLATIO, with a comical nod to the RAPTURE crowd.

Imagine the disappointment that followed such a vile transcription of historical wrong headedness. Who can tell if that took bearing with the designer?

I'll admit, I peeked in on this thread with a hope to see some mention of my own wares (even though it'll be a while before the Stumbling Drunk surfaces), but given the topic so far I think it better to collect my marbles and exit the room silently.

Kaeth, I don't think telling other people what their intentions are with such certainty is a good idea; believe it or not I don't approach a pedalboard forum with anywhere near that tactical of an approach and it certainly does create hostility to claim so completely what another persons intentions are, especially when they are insidious.

Metasonix Scrotum Smasher. I know there’s some other embarrassing Metasonix names and graphics too, but I can’t remember offhand.

MASF also has the Kidnapper so maybe Raptio is part of a kidnapping theme.

Yeah I got that one when it was the only one available because I wanted to try it. Was not a fan of the name but thankfully it isn't plastered all over the pedal

Wait, none of you ever googled this? Yes, it's a silly name, in line with the whole shock/horror/splatter/bondage theme a lot of noise culture goes for. Have you ever googled where the name Joy Division comes from? Great pedal though. I just got it etched with some cool samurai.

Just opened this thread, looks like I should grab a snack.
