A Classic. The DOD Meat Box. It was only made for a short time in the mid 90s. It was a subharmonic generator with a horrible tracking problem. No matter what you played into it, it gliched up... ....in bass! Put a cheap distortion after it and it was totally sick. I killed my first amp with it. Plus it was painted up to like like a slab of meat and it came with these little stickers of flies. The box died long ago, but I hope to find another someday.

Very interesting! Never knew DOD made a pedal called the Meat Box. I'll keep my eyes open for one of those.

Yær, i'm with aen on this one. I never use my wah for funky ass wah-wah-chikka-wah. I'd never go without it though. It can make my noise scream.

Other than that, i dig the DBA Soundwave Breakdown.

Right on. I guess I need to revisit my wah in a different light. I haven't used it in a while because I only used it back in the day when it was cool to play funky ass wah-wah-bow-chikka-wow-wom stuff.

  • Meatbox
  • Buzzbox
  • Corrosion
  • Grunge
  • Death Metal
  • Thrash Master

these are all DOD Distortions pedals that are highly sought after by noise people & sometimes fetch to upwards of $200 used on ebay. just depends. well. really the Buzzbox can go for that much.

i don't think DOD Wah DOD FX-17 is much sought after by most "people who do noise." although i have seen a few Digitech Whammys in a few set-ups. were talking strict orthodox american noise though.

anyway where is the Raytownians as i am sure he could level a more expert discourse on the subject matter? (LOL...)

Aw, it feels like you're deriding me... :(

Yes, the Buzz/Meat Box and Corrosion DO go for absurd prices that I wouldn't recommend paying (I have the meat+buzz box schems from DOD anyway, and the Corrosion schem. is available online)... Shawn of Sirkut has said he may build some PCB's for the Buzz Box (and maybe Meat Box), too... but, of course, no one knows when that'll be... Some day, though, haha.

Anywho, pedals like the DM and Grunge are still pretty easy to find on the cheap (anywhere from 20-50 dollars seems normal)... The Metal Maniac and Thrash Master *used* to be this way, and still are reasonably-priced, but now they tend to go for 45-50 bucks (and occasionally for way more when some asshole on ebay thinks anyone will buy one for $100+)... They used to go for dirt cheap, like 20-30 bucks on ebay, though... It's not hard to find them for less if you are patient, though, I suppose.
------------------------------
Speaking from personal experience, the Metal Maniac seems to work best on its own... Good for shaker boxes and noisy guitar distortion... They self-oscillate with hardly any gain, so whenever you're not playing, it's all "EEEEEEEEEEEE!"

And as for the DOD Wah/Vol. pedal, I have seen some folks use them and heard a few people say they were good... Not to mention, they are pretty compact which appeals to me, but I never came across one for little money when I was actually *looking*... I don't use "manual" wah effects that much because the only wah pedal I own is a piece of garbage that seems to have fried itself... I want to eventually replace the inductor (which I believe is the problem with it) and just rehouse it in a box with a knob so I can adjust it with my hand...

I was also thinking about turning the chasis into an exp. pedal for the Boss PS-5, and having an input jack on the wah box to control it that way if I feel like it.

EDIT: I should add, you can get something similar to the Meat Box with any Subharmonic Generator and some bitchin' speakers! I think the Peavey Kosmos rack is probably 100-200 dollar (and the cheapest you will find), but for what you'd pay, you'd get more features than the Meat Box delivers in a rackmount unit... Which reminds me, I need to put "patch bay" on my want list.

I know :)

I just did a really cool noise piece with that rig and a sub-contra tuned bass that really turned out well, I'm planning on putting it out soon.

Dude, Super-Oscillo-Fuzz -> RE-201 = Godly noises. I can't compete with my Clari(not) -> Superdelay. It's just not the same.
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?
