i'm relatively new to electric instruments and am wondering how i can get my bass to sound warm, low and very, very soft. Something like Neutral Milk Hotel.

You can see it pretty good around 1:48 - 1:51

Go to about 3:40ish and tell me how that tone was achieved. Just insane.
Noone has any ideas?

I think it might be the way they recorded it (probably direct input from amp or direct to box). It just seems like there might be a touch of overdrive, but not much else, IMO. Using an EQ would be your best bet though.

Echo, tremelo, and/or staccato playing through a slowly sweeping wah, into overdrive.

http://amateurchemist.blogspot.com/2007 ... es-at.htmlThere are a few shots of the pedalboards there, Sune rose Wagner appears to be using a RAT, Boss Mega Distortion, Jimi Hendrix octave Fuzz, Sharin's using a couple of RAT pedals, a ZVex Fuzz Factory, from what i can make out (and some stuff that's been taped over)
Yeah, his live tone is much different though. In the studio there's a lot of different fuzzes they use.
i have a RAT, and know that i think about it, with a bit of fiddling with the filter control you could probably cop that.

So people don't have to actually scroll through that...
I have a very similar board (I run a TS 9>Rat>Sobbat DB1>FF>RV 7) and every once in a while try to cop something like that. It never works...
On a related note, who's making the most noise? The Fuzz Factory or Mega Distortion? (go to like 2:00)?
