I like synths & electric pianos with Uni-Vibe circuits, but only on slow, hypnotic stuff. Unfortunately everyone uses it for overdriven, bluesy guitars. It's ideally utilized within a chain of other modulation devices, instead of being the dominant effect.

I can’t usually tell if someone is using an modeling effect or actually found someone to play it but any time someone throws in a sitar sounding part I usually get pretty mad

PV/grind bands where the vocalist has a noise board is getting pretty annoying. I love Bleed the Pigs but when I saw them I was like "here we go.."

Swervedriver, Swirlies, and the pumpkins song "Starla" are reasons I dig wah.
I usually don't get turned off by effects so much as really bad lyrics from a singer who is usually lyrically focused, or forced guitar solos that don't add anything to the song.

The thing about wahs is that I like the way they sound when other people play them, but when it comes to using them I hate it.

What happened to Rick Froberg? He used to have a really awesome record label and a bunch of websites for his art but it seems like he's scrubbed all presence of all of that from the internet.

Man...wah can definitely rule when used right imo. There are surely a million ways to use it wrong though.
Posting this one because besides being a funeral doom classic the phaser abuse is next level. Definitely an odd choice although it doesn't ruin it for me.

Yeah I’m getting really tired of that shit. Like a good 60% of the bands I play with are doing this now and it’s just overdone. Especially when none of them are using it in a way that isn’t just “what I saw the harsh noise dude do at a house show” as opposed to actually making it part of the music.

I haven't seen him for a while, maybe a year or so, but he's still at it in Brooklyn making drawings and playing music. I'm pretty sure he's focusing on Hot Snakes right now. They have a new album coming out next month I think. Sub Pop is also reissuing all the old Hot Snakes records and they're planning a tour ... or at least some shows to support the album. Didn't realize he'd taken down his website until just now.
The Swami Records pages hasn't been updated in like five years too.
Hope he doesn't beat me up for outing him on his wah abuse.
