Field Effect Transistors are amazing.

I don't really want an Amp-in-a-pedal solution though.

I had an idea, but it's probably done by someone somewheres, and not really a new concept.
Fuzz Face variant... BUT!
5 controls-
volume, fuzz, volume, fuzz, blend.
Blend control allows you to blend between Silicon and Germanium, which have different controls so you can set them differently. :idk:

I can see problems with Biasing a plenty with that... you can use Resistance based temperature control though to keep it at a constant 4.5v but there are flaws...
Sure it can be done though somehow!

Argh! Not a reality check!!!

Lol don't be discouraged... And hey an external bias control would help... but then it would just be getting close to just being an Fuzz Factory but hey, no one says that wont make you money! We all gotta keep thinkin'

I'm pretty sure the Earthquaker Devices Hoof Fuzz is a hybrid Germanium/Silicon fuzz and the Tone knob "blends" the two...so hard left is full on germanium and hard right is full on silicon with everything in between

-edit-

The Hoof is a Muff variant though, so different sound from a fuzz face, plus you can't control the transistors individually...

Yeah that's what I was getting at... perhaps I over complicated the idea though.

I think it may be pretty possible... it will be pretty jumpy for most of the guitars neck and more ring modulatory than what you may have in your head and also synthy but the glitchiness is part of the fun :omg:

I'm also thinking that I could add a swell function (by stealing an swell fuzz circuit I saw admittedly) and then it could develop into the mini micro synth I said about with harmonizing type sound capabilities... so basically selectable octave up, down, fuzz and swell in an 1590BB... the bread board is looking more and more tempting.

So many crazy ideas... so little beer, time & money...

Just re-reading this... An analogue sort-of harmonizer with a swell feature? Sounds fucking ace!
What would the swell sound like? And would it be like a user-controlled volume swell (maybe EoG-type light sensor or wah-style)?
I think it would be great if there was a blend knob, some kind of way of choosing how much octave up/down signal.

Another thing: any interest in a really basic looper pedal? I know this isn't new at all, but the only affordable thing out there is the Junk-fi Sampler...
In my head, it would need to be only two things:
1) as simple as possible to use live,
2) absolutely no frills, i.e. cheap but good sounding!

The swell feature is stolen form an old magazine that only works with an fuzz in front of it, so for an synth, it's perfect, here's a demo by someone else http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2al4eJUecX8

And some kind of blend knob would be interesting and perphaps possible, I'm hoping this will all fit it into the 1590BB or the Larger MXR enclosure, i'm thinking sliders like the Micro synth too for good blend control.

The mobius trip looper from Generalguitardgadgets is a no frill looper... sounds pretty sweet too btw.
