Maybe not the best release of the year but, for me personally, the most important...Cülo is back...but now as Tarantüla (technically this happened last year but I missed it). This reminds of me of the great tradition of a 'continuation band' in music (for reference: JOY DIVISION -> NEW ORDER / THE PIXIES -> THE BREEDERS etc.). This sounds like Cülo but with Flanger and Chorus effects on the guitar. Hardcore Punk meets Goth/Death Rock? Maybe...
I loved Cülo and was saddened when the band collectively called it quits (I heard everyone in the band developed a bad speed problem [as opposed to a 'good' drug addiction] and needed to chill out...but that could be rumor). Anyway, Tarantüla S/T 7 inch.

Big Brave - Ardor is one of the best albums I've heard this year.

And Norwegian band Soft Rides album "Burgundy" is brilliant as well.
Awesome psychedelic "west coast" pop with a twist of dad rock.

This album is so filthy and brutal. Basically 30 minutes of having your face ripped off and horribly reconfigured. Glad to see them getting a ton of attention outside of Japan.

The band doesn't post dick about anything ever. They just started having an online presence like... in June? I think. Apparently they've been around for years but I learned about them last year when my friend put their first CD in my hands and said "no questions, buy it."
