Yeah. I mean, at this point, after my last band broke up, i'm pretty much only doing synths, and Eventide sits at that "as much as a synth" price point that gets hard for me to justify a pedal. Plus the timebender/Particle combo cost about as much and i feel are far more capable than the Pitchfactor would be for me. The only thing the PF does that's remotely "more" for me would be the MIDI. But oh well.Invisible Man wrote:I love complicated gear, but the H9 was too much stuff packed into too 'intuitive' (or insert buzzword or your choice) a package. Like buying a laptop and only being able to use arrow keys to do anything. So I went *back* to the PF that I sold to get the H9. Not sexy to burst anyone's GAS bubble, but I really do think that you're covered with a TB/Particle combo. The best algorithms on the H9 come from the PF, anyway...so, if you feel a burning need to find out, just hang out with Brandsmannen.
tl;dr: Pitchfactor is rad, but can limit people because of its depth. I actually just listened to a podcast on the way to work where Blonde Redhead literally name-checked the PF as a tool that caused disagreements over how it should be used in their songwriting process.
The H9 has never enticed me bc of that layout.

Whoaa... gotta listen that. Not a big fan but I know one of them had 2 PFs on his board.Invisible Man wrote:

Didn't know you did that stuff...that is a world that terrifies me. My Luddite brain is still trying to make sense of my Moog semi (hard-on) modular getup. What's a good/free place to start?D.o.S. wrote:Also I'm definitely spoiled by Ableton + Max for Live when it comes to these sorts of effects.

I almost said this. Back in the day (before I had a pager) I had oodles of fun with Eventide MIDI stuff...mostly just clocking insanely complicated and expensive pedals together.

But I could run a clock to the MuRF, Moog Delay (in which case the TIME knob becomes a motherfuckin' clock divider, which, when oscillating, allows you to play major triads with your delays), PF/H9, Boomerang, and the EHX 8 Step...which I could then run via CV to any parameter on pretty much any of these effects, as almost all of them have exp inputs.
Then I had children.

Gives you the Suite (which includes Max for Live) for 30 days, assuming you have the computer to run it. Also Live Lite will let you learn a ton about how it works for less than the price of your average Boss pedal. It has a lot of the same traps modular does, though, in that it's very easy to hear something that someone else has done (and once you're working in Ableton etc. to actually see what they've done to the signal) and just replicate that for days on end, whereas I think the real value is in how well it integrates with external sources (samples and instruments, etc).

Re: Red Panda? VIDRET!
I got my Digitech Digiverb today. Holy shit. for $45 it sounds bangin. I tried the reverse and that is something of it's own, but I like it. Almost more delay like. I'm thinking I can ditch my Topanga since spring mode on the Digiverb KILLS.psychic vampire. wrote:Honestly, the FX500, Midiverb II, and Digiverb were good enough for a lot of people. Pretty sure they all go reverse. SPX-90 also probably?

Honestly, i saw a $55 Digiverb in the local shop the other day and considered picking it up then and there for no other reason than it was there and so was i. Glad to hear you like it. I might go back now.

i think it's one of those pedals that doesn't have very good street cred from TGP people, so I bet you could get it for even cheaper. I'd also be willing to bet its been on the shelf for a while.psychic vampire. wrote:Honestly, i saw a $55 Digiverb in the local shop the other day and considered picking it up then and there for no other reason than it was there and so was i. Oh almost certainly. I would never not haggle with this store. I just don't actually personally need a Digiverb at the moment. Or maybe i do?

You're going to have a fucking blast! Put it in front of another delay with longer delay times and good clear repeats and let it do its thing forever.

Re: Red Panda? TL;DR buy a Particle
I sort of want to get a Particle again now that I'm using a ton of synth stuff, it just never worked out well on bass for me.* I'll probably just wait for a good deal on one though.
*Turns out most pedals don't though, I'm only suited to play screamo/grind/emo music which requires like 2 pedals only.
