We all have favorites. I like to think we're fortunate to hear another Autolux album regardless of what everyone thinks. Their live performances have been really incredible and this tour seems to be the most labor intensive as of yet with the band having guitar, video, audio, stage techs which was probably never available to them. Hopefully with the signing to 30th Century Records we can hear more from them without having to wait another 6 years!

Definitely agree on the live aspect.
Even while wearing a winter coat in early April in a fairly hot room surrounded by people, that was a damn good show.
Also, I think I could live with waiting another 6 years for a new album.
As long as they avoid becoming Tool, I'll get over it.

I just looked them up.
That does suck, sounds like some rad shoegaze.

Took me three listens to figure it out
this is not the sort of... you know... shoe-gazy, drowsy, textured Autolux of Future Perfect we all seem to love and miss a little...
This is a straight-up trip-hop record. Try to take it as that... very groove-driven with heavy focus on the bass and drums, moody vibing shit... Once you try to see it as that it could help your appreciation. Certainly helped me to see it in a new light and fall in love with it in a new way
(ps: I write that from a standpoint of someone who makes a music that has similar focus on the groove and is pretty bass-driven, too)

A nerdy question about Autolux in general (gear related)
Beside Turnstile Blues - where does Eugene use the whammy? Thinking about buying the Bass Whammy and I'd like to hear it in practical, musical use - other use than Tool and demo wankage

He's using the DigiTech XP100 Whammy Wah. A much cheaper alternative than the Bass Whammy and it has presets.
Besides TB, he uses it on Audience No. 2, when he plays guitar on Asleep At the Trigger, Platlife (live version he uses 2 octaves up), Here Comes Everybody (intro bit is him), Possibly on the solo bit for Science of Imaginary Solutions - I think that's it but I'm probably forgetting some. He uses it a lot in conjunction with the XP300 Space Station (Audience No. 2 again + many more).

I wouldn't be surprised if he uses it for +3/5 steps for filler, too.
