I usually just flip a pedal if I am not using it on any of the many instruments I fuck around with. If it doesn't sound good on bass, polysynths, monosynths, drum machines, or tape loops, what the turn am I doing with it? If it does one specific thing that another broader pedal does better and there is no reason to have two, buh-bye. If i get it for a musical project that never takes off and I don't need it for anything else, or if it fails to impress me after multiple tries. Sometimes i will try a pedal once a week or once a month. I don't need more shit, libraries sound cool, but I would rather actively contribute to making the music i am making at a moment. Right now i will probably get more ise out of a midiverb 2 or other cheap stereo racks than I will most things, so that is prolly what I will get.

I'm 24, I'm just irresponsible.
Also, I've been working full time in music for like 4 years now, so I can sorta justify the expense.

Nah man. I never want to be 24 again. Fuck that shit. I was a dumb ass then, not that I'm not a dumb ass now, but I'm not as much of one. hahahaha.
Back to flipping. I just flipped my CT5 and Goatkeeper 3. Sigh. LOL. I had too!!! I HAD TOO!!! They are both great but the CT5 seriously is not that usable on bass IMO and the Goatkeeper, I just don't use it. I need to stop rebuying shit I don't use. It's dumb.
I have another H9 Max coming for them though. Which loop holes my whole Eventide situation that made me hate them so much! I win now you cock suckers!!! No more fucking emails requesting algos from me!!!
Plus I'm a whore. I can't help it. I just can't...

Likewise, I keep what I need, dump what I don't. Except I'm the dummy who sold off my good gear to replace it with a lot of little things I have remorse for buying, compared to the good gear I sold to get it. And, I'm now selling off the cheap stuff so I'm really left with nothing except memories. That's no way to live. Of course, now I want most of those things back.

I think we should just accept that we're all really just different incarnations of Juan Alderete's gear lust personified.

When do I decide to flip? When I'm down to my last package of saltines.

I will not say never to anything, but at this point it os highly unlikely I will flip most of the things I have not already (tried to). Closest to getting the boot is my Ensoniq ESQ-1, in favor of a minilogue or blofeld, and honestly they are both so cheap I will prolly just get one eventually without having to flip my ensoniq. There are three pedals are currently on the chopping block, and a few i Want to come in, but at this point most of the things i am looking at are old cheapo DOD pedals.
I am ridiculously unlikely to flip my Fretless Peavey T-40, or my new GK800rb. Blower Box, Megalith clone, Oxide, and Timebender are probably hear to stay. i try to only buy great things that will last at this point. Don't have enough money for crap. Unless said crap is Behringer Dimension C clones.

I played guitar 20 years ago. I had a DD-5, Crybaby, CH-1, MT-2, and a Lovetone Meatball believe it or not. All my friends that played had pedals too even the bass players.

Yea, just didn't get to pick based on appearance, hence my original comment.
Boss and occasional weird old stuff was about as good as it got.

Jumping in here late to say that usually when I buy something it's after I've researched it obsessively for some time. So when I don't jive with something, it kind of bums me out and I'll hold onto it a little longer than I might otherwise, just sort of hoping that I eventually do like it. That's never actually happened, though, and I always wind up flipping it. I kind of feel that way with the Meteore at the moment. I really loved it for a little while, but the more I play with it, the more I want to pick up a Procession or an Afterneath .... or a Procession and an Afterneath and an RV-2.
