Thomastiks are made in Vienna, and therefore superior.

Bassstringsonline has tapes on sale sometimes. You ought to try for yourself.

that Musicvox is so cool :!!!:

I actually realized what I'm looking for with the hollowbody is that Justin Meldal Johnsen thump. Sort of what he does on Sea Change - that's a vintage Guild Starfire, I know, but that's like the SORT of character you know? Kind of :idk:

Still baffling how hard it is to find short/medium scale flats (PS: I'm in Europe... and hate that Thomann's shipping is 15€)

A thumpy sound has a lot more to do with how old your strings are [or you can use a mute], compression, pickups, compression, amp, compression, setup, compression, how hard you hit the string, compression, where you hit the string and compression.

You can get Daddario chromes (flats) for short scale pretty easily.
Medium scale might be problematic.

They work just fine, I have chromes on my 32" scale 84 Ibanez Destroyer, no issues. What I don't like though is their SS set, I don't like the gauge mix, it gives you tight high strings and a floppy E.. which is why most of the time for the last 20+ years of using those strings I end up buying them in singles to do my own sets...

Good point.
On my electrics I generally use Curt Mangan strings. Last I checked they were having trouble sourcing the ribbon for flat wounds but that was a couple years ago.
I should look into it again to see if they are offering flats.

So... talked to Mudfuzz a bit on facebook and I'm dumb

didn't realize that since the bass has a tailpiece, the string actually should be a bit longer. Scale is 32", but the tailpiece might be something like two inches behind the bridge so with a bit of luck, I'll be able to use the set of Roto 77's I have here.
Took that off my P/J because i was getting deadspots, not sure if it's the interaction of the strings and the instruments or a bad set, gravitating towards the interaction.

I'm picking up the bass on Sunday :) I will report back! Super excited... nothing as awesome as getting a new instrument, really

(might be a Musima but the tailpiece would then not be original. Not sure what to expect of the pickups but I wrote an article about a dude I know who winds beautiful pickups - made me a set for my P/J that just fucking KILLS - and he said he owes me a pickup set for the exposure - printed in one of the most respected musical monthlies here)

not yet. Didn't request more because I've seen it, it's my friend's, she's moving out of the country and wants me to have it, she really likes our band... I will take some once I get my hands on it :) Oh I will...

Sunday-ish :animal:

Yeah, on my Mustang (30" scale length) I use medium scale Chromes because it's a strings through body type bridge. Fits perfectly but short scale strings would be too short...
