If you're getting into Muffs and pedals that aren't Boss, I think this might be a place to start. If you're like us though, I believe we like our muffs to be different and all sound good at different settings.
I might (literally never) buy this, but I don't usually twiddle my knobs and readjust setting for sounds a lot if ever. Also, more is more. I would like to have seen a mids controls, and maybe a low and high end control. Maybe I want super fat low end that is smeary, then later have a tight end and boosted highs, for that Pink Floyd solo I 'll never do.

Maybe this was brought up already, but they use a different guitar for every setting in that demo. Of course they're gonna sound different. Suspicious. Also, that JHS dude looks like a fuckin creep, not surprising he's backed by creeps. It's almost like there is a factory pumping out jowly, pig eyed ultra conservatives. They all look the same. I get a bad vibe from that guy, even if I didn't already know their history.

Sorry, I'm in a bad mood. I shouldn't be talking shit about someone I've never met. Maybe he's super cool. Still, would be more interested in that pedal if someone else made it. Plus "haunting mids"! Ugh!

This is, honestly, one of the biggest reasons I dislike JHS. And the whole P&W scene in general. It's one thing to play music in a church, and to be in a "christian band." But once you start making the whole "the gear/music is to lead people to god" argument is when I start getting angry as all fuck. No, you don't need that boutique pedal to lead people to god. No, you don't need fancy music to lead people to god. No, neither of those things genuinely led anyone to god. This is why Joel from Chase Bliss is probably my favorite person in the whole world of pedal builders (for now). The V3 Cosmichorus barely fits in a 1590BB with SMD. Soldering that by hand would take a day or two and reduce Ryan's output (and pricing) to Toneczar levels. What are you paying for with a boutique pedal?
The circuit design?
The unique sounds?
The visuals and other tangible aspects of the pedal?
The relationship with the builder?
The after sale care?
Or does one define boutique by how many processes can be done in house and how many hours it takes per pedal? If you take a pedal developed by a large corporation, and then produce a 1:1 clone, but in a basement somewhere and with fancy graphics - is that boutique?
(when I wrote this post I was working it through in my head question for question, but now that it's written out it looks less Socratic and more passive aggressive than I'd like. Please mentally remove any aggression from this post and read it through a haze of friendly inquisitiveness)
Case in point: I just bought a Vexter box of rock (I needed something that would fit on a single slat of a pedal train). Afaik it's entirely assembled not by hand in China. Have I bought a boutique pedal? What differentiates that from a Joyo version of the same circuit? It's just a couple of SHOs in a box - a circuit which was borrowed from an old mixer desk or however the story goes. Where then is the originality in the circuit? What have I just paid for??
Maybe what we want with boutique is just small scale manufacture. And perhaps the idea that I can get to know the person building my pedal. Is the boss wazacraft stuff boutique? Or the digitech/blackout mashup like the bone shaker?
Which leads inevitably to brands becoming too big for boutique. Zvex, fulltone, keeley... EQD? Or is it such that once you've been boutique you're always boutique?
I think this is genuinely fascinating - never really thought about it before. Probably just goes to show that the word boutique is bullshit and I should just buy pedals from dudes I like for whatever random reasons I have.

I am behind you there. Way back when, in the mid 90s I played on and off with my church's 'contemporary' worship band/group. I was ecstatic that they let me play an electric and every once in a while I could kick on the chorus on my old crate amp! Back in my youth our church music was limited to a piano and a choir, except for special occasions there was a guy who would break out his hammered dulcimer.
