Good luck on your search!

For my non-channel switching amp I use a Barber UnLimited.
I can set it to one low-boil gain level, and then switch over to
a higher gain level with the same EQ tone settings. There are
trim pots inside for bass and presence (I think) haven't opened
it up in a while.

But that can give you your amp tone, but just a little dirtier.

Before that I only ever used a Rat. I hear what you're saying about
the treble content, but with your new amp, and in a band context,
that might work out well for you. I've found the Rat to be great
in a low- to medium-drive context.

The UnLTD and the Rat both stack well with other fuzz, which is
why I love them. Those two pedals are my "go-tos" for OD and
distortion. I haven't spent any more time looking in those
sonic areas. Now I spend my time looking for fuzz and delay.

IdiotBox Blower Box?
10/10. Blower Box is fucking rad and nails that description.

Still not done checking everything that's been suggested so far. It might've just been the demos I seen/heard, but the blower box seems more like a buzzy bass fuzz rather than a thick distortion for guitar :idk:

Anyway, I may have a lead on a used H&K Tube Factor. Not particularly edgy/trendy/whatevery, and rather conservative sounding I suppose...But I used to have one that I wish I never sold. Seriously underrated overdrive, that has the rare quality of NOT fucking up your tone and still adding quite a bit of gain/grit to it. Voiced like nothing I owned till/since than, pretty unique sounding. I really really hate to use adjectives like "organic", or "amp like"...But yeah, those clichés sorta do apply when it comes to the Tube Factor.

The two stages are nice and usefull too, and the price is right as well.

It's just that I might also have a lead on a fab tone, which should be cheaper, less annoying to power and put on a stuffed pedal board, and paceked with a shit ton more gain...

EQD white light. It was one of my first better over drives and it became a army swissknife for me. I guess it depends on gear and style. But this was my go to drive. I just need dirty boost. Or some overdrive... It has enough gain and will work with different guitars. For me at least. But I have to say I play most time clean or full bore and rarely in the low/mid-gain range.

Long/short: I would check out EQD. The Monarch was also super cool and was great for many things.

My current distortion is a Railhead TUA because I need the br00tz :)

I do have a thing for EQD...

But what do how much exactly is "enough" gain? Like where does it sit compared to an OCD or a Rat or whatever else drive pedal I might be familair with?

Bassists love it, but it sounds fabulous with guitar as well.

If you don't believe me, here's a link to the tourbox thread which included the Blower Box:
