I wish somebody would do a quick rundown on the different Boss compact DD versions (or is that info online somewhere). I gotta say that I'm coming around on Boss pedals because of the noiseless switching (all pedal switches should be noiseless IMO). Do the DD series all do "trails"? A quick overview on the differences would be great (or just cut to the chase and recommend one... or two). Seems like the DD3, DD6 and DD7 are the most common (?)

I remember Stuart from mogwai talking about this in a rig rundown type of deal. The DD-3 doesn't trail, DD-5(or maybe 6) trails of kinda quickly and the dd-7 trails "naturally", I suppose that means responding to the actual feedback set. Other than that I wouldn't know the difference really.

Unless you score a grand deal on an earlier one, just go straight to the DD-7 and don't look back.

Dd3 has been pretty much unchanged since it was introduced. It is their most basic delay and is essentially built like an analogue delay, with only the actual delaying done digitally. That's why you can do the "high-cut mod" for example, because all the stuff round the little delay section is analogue. It uses 12 bit ad/da converters which in today's day and age is crap. Which is also why it sounds so awesome. There is a loss of fidelity because of the low resolution that makes the delays sit really well.

Dd-5,6 and 7 are all 100% digital. 6 superseded 5, and 7 superseded 6. 5 has the most features, delay time increased with each model. I assume the ad/da's got better as well but the dd-5 was so good I can't hear a difference. They all have the same basic modes then each one has something unique. Dd5 can stutter (so can the dd3). Dd6 and 7 are stereo. 6 has a warp delay thing, 7 can be used as a 40 second looper.

I could be wrong here, but I *think* the reverse mode on the DD-5 is kinda unique in the whole Boss DD series, right?
