Is it possible to make a video of any version of the Whammy pedal that does not include a fucking horrible attempt at either a Radiohead or Rage Against The Machine solo?
I postulate that it is not.

it's a solid state amp, but i'm not sure - could that harm the amp as well?
Yeah I own a SWR LA15 100w bass combo that gives a big thump when I turn it on. In the manual it says this is normal. Scares the shit out of the cats and dog though.

Juan Alderete has a bass whammy demo that I think manages to side step all that.

how long of amp idle .. before you switch to stand-by?
i notice when i roll the volume knob off my guitar.
then strum for a sec.
then switch to stand-by - there's no pop.
if i don't do the strum part. the amp/tubes make that pop noise going into stand-by

static?
Strumming will drain the caps, and popping occurs when there is a build up of charge on one side of the switch, so that makes total sense. The pop is only bad if it is loud enough to do bad things to your speakers, otherwise AFAIK it won't harm your amp as it's just a quick discharge of the capacitors.
You should use your standby switch while you are waiting for your tubes to warm up so the cathode doesn't get punched in the face by heaps of voltage. About 30 seconds is enough. But AFAIK once your tubes are warm it doesn't serve to protect your tubes at all - they are in no need of protection as they are already warm - you can safely just turn it off with the mains power switch.
thanks for droppin' the knowledge

Using the word "cathode" is a good way to appear more intelligent

I had one of those for a but didn't really like the sound. it was on the more "sterile" end of ss heads ive owned. But I was comparing it to a MusicMan at the time so it may jave just been an unfavorable comparison.

So, if I were to make some sort of instrument with springs, what type of mic should I use?

Nice, thanks. I've seen contact mics mentioned here before, but never read up on what they actually are.

it's a microphone that is physically attached to whatever sound you're trying to capture

Selling amps sucks. Like imagine shipping a JC120?
But I don't want to actually interact with people...
