Re: Pepe's pedal demos (BOSS DN-2 Dyna Drive)
That thing sounds weird...I don't know about the higher gain on it, but that first riff with low gain was great! All the playing is great though.
It's kinda weird sounding on higher settings though...like almost too processed or something?

Re: Pepe's pedal demos (BOSS DN-2 Dyna Drive)
Yes, that nails it. I already didn't like it over headphones at their booth at the Musikmesse Frankfurt the year it was released. It took a few more years and a BOSS RT-20 to convince me that BOSS can do good digital pedals apart from delay and reverb. I had this DN-2 for a few weeks only and sold it for more than I paid for it. It's all good.

Just wanted to say I bought a korg 301dl because of your demo. Should be here next week!

Re: Pepe's pedal demos (BOSS DN-2 Dyna Drive)
Good man!
Just be sure to clean or replace the Bypass switch. I don't know what KORG used back then, but some of the ToneWorks pedals I've owned had issues with this switch. Apart from that the pedals are superb, especially the 301dl, which is the only one (as a pair for true stereo) of that series that I have kept.
BTW, Jero is talking about this pedal:

Two KORG pedal demos at once! Here's the DST-1:

And a quick and easy live-tweaking demo of the PEQ-1:

Nice, Pepe.
I used to have a Yamaha parametric. Love it.

Re: Pepe's pedal demos (KORG DST-1 & PEQ-1)
I heard some Knopfler like sounds in there...
The distortion just sounds OK to me...it's just not biting enough or something. Kinda reminds me how I always percieved pedals sounding in the 1990s to early 2000s, if that makes any sense, haha. PEQ-1 sounds awesome!
Great demos!

Re: Pepe's pedal demos (KORG DST-1 & PEQ-1)
I really like the DST-1 because of its lack of bite. It is a very "natural" sounding distortion with very cool picking dynamics. I think it's a very nice "mild" alternative to the BOSS DS-1 that I never really liked.
The Yamaha PE-01 is the same as the PEQ-1. The whole series was developed by KORG and Yamaha was allowed to sell them as well under their own hood. (A bit company history: that was before the KORG M1 Workstation sales went through the roof and KORG had the money to buy off Yamaha's stock options. Before that time there was a constant collaboration between Yamaha and KORG, thus the Yamaha chips and keyboard in the KORG DS-8 and also the Yamaha keyboard in the KORG M1. After the huge success in the late '80s and early '90s KORG was able to stand on its own feet.)

Re: Pepe's pedal demos (KORG DST-1 & PEQ-1)
Korg was bailed out by Roland in the 1970s too right (I think it was juts a loan though)? I have a Yamaha ad-10 that I like a lot too.
Yea, a more mild ds-1 is what I was thinking too (which is what my 90s comment was kinda directed at...it was used a lot by people getting that grunge tone in local bands)...just didn't want to say it because I haven't played a ds-1 since 2006 probably. I partially don't know what I am really looking for in a distortion either...i really like the higher gain pedals like the death metal, but I like the 250/dist+ stuff a lot too. I guess I usually like to use my amp with some kind of treble boost and mid cut (either via amp or pedal).
Part of the reason I was curious about that distortion in the first place was I kinda wanted to do the nerd thing with an all yamaha setup...like SGV 300 to dst-1 to ad-10 to g100...but I was more just something fun to think about haha.

Oh, yeah, well Korg USA is headquartered one exit away on the Long Island Expressway from where I grew up. Bet you guys didn't know that.

Uncontrollable, unpredictable, but somehow desirable: the Seppuku Radio Freq.

Sounds nice, Pepe, I though you were maybe gonna bust into some Joy Division at around 4:11 though.
