I'm getting first comments on the review. One person called me a talentless hack, another one said something like "a bad pink floyd album is still better than many good albums by most other bands"
can't argue with that logic huh

it's in Czech soooo.... not really good for anything
"semi-professionally", I sort of only write in Czech. I write for an online server focused on heavy music (lots of bland metalcore and stupid shit like that, I try to get the odd ones in from time to time... or review the heavy bands I like...), this was, however for one of the biggest Czech music servers. Started to write for them about two months ago. It's more mainstream, but it's a great experience, although my critical opinions are not always received well by the readers
don't do it for the money, mainly for the press passes, CV cred and experience... to sort of get in the business of writing at least a little bit
Of course I'd like to write for some more interesting servers like the Quietus, but I'm a little bit busy and a lot afraid to offer them my services

As far as Piper being "overrated" my $.02 is there are tons of people who put stock in ONLY Piper and (in my experience) will discredit everything "without Syd" and there are those DSOTM/The Wall fans who aren't interested in the early shit. Both are just kind of irritating to talk to. Like whatever you want, but don't preach to me what's legit and what isn't. It's the same with with Sabbath fans, first four or first six (however big whatever to any Sabbath fan who doesn't like Sabatoge), etc.
Besides, don't get me started on describing 40 year old albums as "overrated". What does that even mean? Because it gets more praise than the shitty records you like? Preposterous line of caring in any context. Stop worrying about anything besides what you're listening to.

It's a good business to be in dude. Especially mainstream shit -- that's the stuff you can actually get paid for
Re: getting onto 'the cool sites', wait until you've got some free time, write an article that doesn't suck, then get a line on one of their managing editors and be like 'yo guys I do XYZ for ZYX and was wondering if you'd be willing to run my story about the time I made a maracroni and paper mache shrine to Michael Gira's forehead and then presented it to Swans when they played here on XX date.' If it really doesn't suck, you'll get it published, and you'll have opened a working relationship with a 'cool' site.

Realling enjoying this thread guys!
(Not my bullshit contributed, though that story about the B side road with trees and stuff was actually legit, if I can say so myself)...

It is one of my favorite albums to torcher people that like radio rock with... pretty much one or two songs in you get "what the fuck is this shit?"

Bike almost always gets them.. Bike is such a awesome song
DarkAxel wrote:lol my review came out with an opposition review from another editor. Who gave it a 5/7 and said it's a great ambient(ish) album
i don't mind the fact that there's an accompanying review. I just think that person has yet to hear a good album like that

yeah.. it would have been a good ambient album.. if those other two still alive fuckwads hadn't have played all over the ambient parts and let spouses write lyrics to add to the mess... I also blame Youth.. Orb is ok once in a while but a lot of it is boring for ambient dub.. and futhermore

fucking people have the nerve to say Floyd are coming back to their roots with this one... mentioning Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Live at Pompeii etc.
also i'Ve heard that "if you knew PF really well, you wouldn't be let down"
I'd be perfectly okay with profanity and threats, the dogmatic blurbs scare me much more

So, basically, people are defending this album by referencing the period that every member of the band has described as the 'out of ideas' period. Go figure.

JESUS FUCK. If they had said
"listen, here's some shit we didn't put on division bell, because it was pretty much just alternate takes of some older stuff. We thought you might want to hear."
And called the fucking opener "Welcome back to the machine" (and continued down the line) I would not be upset. BUt don't you dare wrap up some leftover knockoffs in cling wrap and try to sell it to me as some brand new shit.

Easy there, tiger, no need to get fucking pissy about it.
See, I've literally NEVER heard any PF fan say anything other than unrelenting obsequious praise for Piper, and I just never got it. I still don't, but I find it interesting that people are attacking me like mountain lions for saying that I don't think it's all that great. I didn't say it was talentless trash, but just that I find that I really only enjoy a few tracks.

Well I don't know you or what you listen to, so I'm obviously speaking about the misuse of the term in a general sense not your taste specifically.

I've basically listened to nothing but Floyd bootlegs since this thread started. I think Rhapsody In Pink is my current favourite....
