I will dust them occasionally if I notice they need it. I put my boots on when I'm getting ready in the morning and then don't take them off again until bedtime.

i never, ever clean my pedals, unless i'm selling one. mostly they stay at my practice space or going to shows and not my house anyway. they get dirty, but fuck it. they were meant to sit on the floor and be stepped on. the only gear i clean is my guitar. it's made of wood which is special to me and it can affect playability. i think this isn't uncommon, but i also feel that i have a special relationship with the guitar that i don't have with any other piece of gear. even though i fucking love and cherish my amp and have pedals that are very important to me sonically and sentimentally, nothing else is like the guitar. it's like a family member.
and it's a very rare circumstance that gets me to remove my shoes between the time i put them on and when i go to bed. i'm living my life and i ain't got time for all this shoes on and off again bullshit. when my house gets dirty i clean it, but the house is for living in, it's not like a carpet and flooring museum or something. if other people want me to take off my shoes in their house i will, but i won't like it. i'm not comfortable just hanging in my fucking socks. my feet get cold and weird feeling and i hate it. what if you have to run for your life for some reason and your ability to do so was compromised cause someone didn't want to have to sweep their floors. like say, an ax murderer smashes through a window while you're watching a movie. you need to be able to run out of the house and run at high speed for a while. if you're in your socks and stepping on gravel and sticks and shit, you're definitely going to die if a crazed ax murderer is chasing you. normally i won't take off my shoes unless i have a loaded firearm within arm's reach. they're all over my house, so i'm cool there. if i go to someone's house and they ask me to, i'll do it cause i don't want to be rude, but i hate it and i think it's rude of them to ask me and they're putting my life at risk with the whole ax murderer thing. i'm not asking people to take off their fucking pants when they come to my house or something. why do they get to ask me to undress? i've been to sweden and norway and i realize it's like a cultural thing there where everyone does it and it's insane not to and probably really insulting, so in those situations i'm fine with it, even though i think their culture is wrong about that particular thing. maybe they have less ax murderers or something.

Hike drunk in Joshua Tree whilst barefoot. At night. Add various drugs.
That's how I did my escape-from-axe-murderer training in my early 20s.

I wipe down my pedals maybe a couple of times a year. I have lots of cats, so the fur accumulates.
Right after I finished building one of my pedals, one of my cats was nice enough to take a crap on it. Perfect placement, though-- she only hit the surface, and not the knobs, pots, or switch. Bleach did the trick.

Wouldn't you be able to make your escape while the axe murderer takes off their shoes...?

REVIVE!
I never have cleaned my pedals, except when selling. But last night I happened to look over at a pedal that I bought brand new just a few weeks ago and noticed it was somehow already covered in dust - something inside of me broke.
My first thought is getting a pedalboard with a case or a lid on it, or preferably finding a lid that would suit my extant pedalboard. The current board is a "found item" kinda thing though, so it'd probably take some work and luck to find something that conforms to its size. Is there anyone out there who has a case for their board that could speak to it's efficacy in warding off dust? I might be barking up the wrong tree or overthinking things here. Like, maybe I should just be dusting the damn things once a month.

I wipe them down occasionally with a rag or tissue, if they get dusty. That's about as much as they ever need, if they were clean when I bought them.

I dust my pedalboard with a fine paintbrush once in a while, like an archaeologist. I also clean my cables regularly, especially those that are lighter colours. Generally I'm not a clean freak, just when it comes to sound equipment.

I have a fine paint brush about 1" wide, and yeah I clean all my pedals and amps and guitar bridges/headstocks with this. I know I look like a buffoon doing it, but it makes me feel good and it only takes a minute.

I clean them if I'm about to sell them to people. Otherwise, not really.
If I DO get into a cleaning mood though, I go all out. I love maintaining stuff. But only when I don't hate it.

paintbrush sounding like a reasonable solution.

Feather duster the pedal board pretty often. Damp cloth for those beer stains.

-throw shirt back on floor
-feel accomplished

Paintbrush is a genius idea! I'm not really OCD about keeping my pedals super clean but I do have pets so whenever I switch up my board or my setup I like to at least wipe or blow off the dog hair. Always wondered what the best way to clean between tight knob spacing is, looks like paintbrush is gonna be my answer.
