ok, head out of sand now, must admit i had not checked out the woohoo til now. really awesome potential in there. i bet i could spend 6 months diggin up tones with it. the namm vid i saw made it sound digital to me despite the claims that it is "digitally controlled analog tone path". but i am sure it all comes down to how you set it up and how you use it. i am very sure i could love it.

+1 - I haven't seen a single demo yet where it does a convincing job of sounding like a normal wah, it's all way too synthy soundingDerelict78 wrote:All the demos of the wahoo that I have seen are horrible.

Nothing necessarily wrong with that, that's usually how I kinda like my wahs to sound anyway.
Although, I guess if you're looking for a more traditional sounding wah...

Re: Favorite Wah(s)?
Agreed, I'm not saying either way is objectively wrong or bad. But if were going to go with a multi-fuction digitally-controlled wah, I'd want it to at least be able to do a convincing old-school wah sound, in addition to all the wacky stuff.Chankgeez wrote:Nothing necessarily wrong with that, that's usually how I kinda like my wahs to sound anyway.

Re: Favorite Wah(s)?
I have a feeling it's very capable of normal wah sounds. Something that's so tweakable must be. I'd think it's just a matter of limiting the parameters to the constraints of what a typical wah does. Doing so in a demo doesn't really show off the full potential of such a pedal though.
The problem I have with pedals like that in general though is that I'm always tinkering with the settings. Which is why I eventually ended up getting rid of my Teese RMC3. It was a great sounding pedal, but I was constantly opening it up to tweak the DIP switches or trimmers just a little bit more.

Re: Favorite Wah(s)?
Well, the presets on the Wahoo are pure shite in my opinion and the demo's of it are completely crap as well indeed.
It does sound synthy but the resonance I think is quite wah like sounding (a bit honky and nasal maybe), it's not as liquid and extreme as the Xerograph Deluxe for instance.
So far I like the lowpass quite a bit better than the bandpass though I still need to try the latest beta firmware since the envelope filter has been adjusted there as it doesn't always trigger like it should in the firmware I'm running now.
I think it has it's querks, it's strengths and weaknesses and it's not a one stop do it all unit but I do by far prefer it over most other wahs and filters I've tried in my impression so far.

I don't know, it sounds pretty flat in all the YouTube vids.digi2t wrote:Hmmmm.... yeah, Wahoo can do that. And more. With one transistor tied behind it's back.Does sound really nice though, too bad it's so over priced though. 400 Euros? The Wahoo is cheaper, and does soooooooo much more.

Re: Favorite Wah(s)?
I must admit, many of the patches suffer from... over exuberant programming? Much like many of the original high gain patches on the GT-PRO. But, with the GUI, you can quickly get it dialed in better. As Chankgeez points out, it's just a matter of investing the time. Add to that all the other bells and whistles available, and you have a formidable sonic weapon. Besides, the fact that you can save you tinkering as a patch, is really the cat's ass. I really like the switching options as well. I've got it set up now to turn on as soon as I toe up, with a 0.2s delay off when toe down, and I find it switches in and out just right. At the end of the day, the ONLY real beef I have is it not being equipped with actual MIDI jacks. The added expense of the Kenton USB/MIDI box is a pain, but the Wahoo's performance does take the sting out of it.
BTW, for those who use MIDI clock to time their rig, like I do, it's a bonus to have the Wahoo dialed in to MIDI clock as well. Wahoo + Slicer sync'd together = twisted.

Re: Favorite Wah(s)?
Most of the factory patches just sound really thin, I've found that upping the drive to about 40 or 50 (with my vintage style Strat pickups it starts to add distortion at about 60), putting it in lowpass and/or changing the slope to a lower one makes quite a difference.

Re: Favorite Wah(s)?
Someone needs to make an extensive demo of it. Hell I think it would be in sonuus' best interest to pay someone to do a good demo.
