Man you guys are awesome. Ive watched all the videos on these. I really want a subphatty but can't afford it right now. I always spend all my money on pedals. The microbrute looks pretty cool. The simple sequencer looks cool. And for around $250. What do you think of the microbrute?

For $250 it is hard to beat as long as you don't mind little keys.
No arpeggiator but it does have a step sequencer.
If you decide to get some eurorack someday, it would easily interface with it.

All and all, I would say DO IT

I would take the Micro over the Rocket because the Micro has the ability to stay useful if you expand your synth set-up, i.e- controller, sequencer, manipulating CV.
The Rocket will always be useful as a synth though and it does have paraphonic capability.

Still, I would take the Micro.

Man i think thats what i want. Just something to make droning rushing psychedelic waves of weirdness. Something to loop behind my guitar.

Most any synth can be made to drone one way or another. I am not sure but some of the sounds in that video sound modular but they could be made with a lot of effects too...

I was going to say, the Juno 106 is definitely not a good choice for a newb, unless it has already been replaced with new chips/serviced. That would bring the cost up. Fabulous synth regardless. These days, I'm not really sure any vintage synth is good to start with though(for a newb on a budget). They all are going to need service, which can get expensive.

I vote MicroBrute!

Did somebody mention not being able to drone? If you don't have something that will send a constant voltage to the gate input, you can always wedge a folded up piece of paper between keys to keep the note going however long you please.

i'm going back to my first suggestion still. yamaha CS-5. it was my first, got it in 1999, they're built like tanks and (knock on wood) i've never had to have any work done to it and it still works just fine. the only thing about it that threw me back then was its initial level knob that can let it continue ringing forever.

Any of those on the list that stick out as simple to use?

The most simple are knob per function. Seriously, Microbrute or Minibrute nail that and the can sound different than midrange distorted (turn the wave forms down in the mixer). Moog SubPhatty does it but does also have a few under the hood features. I think the new Bass Station is pretty knobby.
