I honestly don't understand how he uses the ODB-3. It always sounds so tinny and scooped when I use it. Boutique vs. Mass aside, that pedal just sounds like shit.
His settings are clean blend and gain at noon. The MXR Comp and Sunn Betas make up for the grossness.

Yep, I know dudes that play 250 or so shows a year and most of them stick to Boss and the like.
Especially for touring overseas where airline travel and dodgy accommodations/transportation
make moving and storing expensive shit kind of risky.
Unless something is absolutely necessary to make records happen live (Minus the Bear and DL4s etc.),
most mid/lower level bands touring DIY or with little support aren't going to risk possible loss or damage.
And let's be honest, 99% of the audience won't be able to tell or care whether that Big Muff you're using is a Ram's Head or a NYC Reissue.

Last show I played I downsized just because we had so much shit on the floor between monitors and cables and samplers and pedalboards and amps that we were practically overlapping in the shitty bar we were playing at.

yeah i'm used to dummies stepping on stuff. 3-4 pedals on the floor is my comfort limit. been playing more shows on a stage recently so i've added an extra fuzz for boost/stacking. the space we practice in has enough room for cabs a few inches from the drums and the floorspace in between is for guitar signal chains. our singer has to stand in the hall, so just us three get hearing damage.
(yo avon did you ever play habanero house in austin? that tiled showroom was tiny af)

^^^Truth^^^
Don't bother bringing out an expensive setup for the two guys in the audience who can hear the difference between your uptown and downtown rigs.

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.
HA! This post made my shitty morning better.

OHHH FUCK YEAH I DID. My real good friends were the folks who lived there. I was perpetually afraid of slipping on that tile. sonidero came out the first time Joy Sores played there and we both had a pretty rowdy good time.

Or perhaps one where everyone posts their current pedal chain, and we all post stuff that best substitutes as far as sound/cost/obtain-ability go

I did that in the thread above, and well, my current chain is over three grand at cheap swappable alternatives (clones for originals put in), digital replicants to fake the tape, etc.
I'm already running a "budget" board for what I do.

I've gotta say, like I love having cool, weird stuff at home but for the one band I'm in that plays bigger venues and tours a decent amount, with a lot of that being flying, I want the simplest, smallest, most easy to plug in and start playing chain I can have, yeah. DS1, wah, and a home made big muff.
