Well, I still do make attempts at sweep picking.

I'm still not very good at it. I don't practice enough. I do like it though. I'll never get it as fluid as Chet or Les. Gonna keep trying though. It's pretty fun. In general, I'm gonna try to play more like Chet & Les… except with 79% more fuzz… and flanger… and a bunch of filters… and a Klon… and a DOD 250 clone with LED clipping... and stuff like that.

Yeah, it continues to amaze me what a visionary Les was.

I hear ya! I don't set aside enough time to practice technique, but I'm slowly getting better at sweeping. I still suck but yeah. It's a great technique as long as it's not just used for speed and shredz.

The intro to the short solo in Behemoth's Conquer All is a great example of tasty sweeping in a metal context. I love it.

But seriously. LED clipping is life.

I wanna be in a band like Behemoth, except with all the vocals running through a ring mod.

Yeah, sweeping has some great musical applications. Good for fills and solos or the occasional flourish. I don't understand players who base almost their entire approach on it. (Especially when their basic tone sucks ass.) Loses all its impact if overused.
