That's totally fine. I understand the hipster impulse to hate on U2. I even engage in it myself from time to time. But the simple fact of the matter is that if you sucked Bono out a fucking airlock, I actually like a lot of their songs instrumentally. There are at least 2 or 3 songs on each album where I totally dig the Edge's guitar lines. And anyone here who likes any of the effects-laden cleanish post-punk guitar lines but hates U2 really needs to stop for a second and think.

Actually, the first three U2 records are just about perfect pop albums.

Their first three albums are awesome. Whether you like their later stuff or not (and I do, up until about Achtung Baby), I think it is a real shame that they've stuck those first three albums mainly into the vault and rarely pull the songs out.

I agree with you on that. To be honest my hatred of U2, doesn't stem from a "Hipster Impulse" but rather because I'm Irish. If your young and into music in Ireland U2 is one of those bands you're expected to like because of nationality rather than artistic merit. The same people that told me U2 were a great band would also tell me in the same breath that The fucking boomtown rats were voices of "their generation". Ireland has a long tradition of propping up shit bands based on nationality.

There're plenty of truly talented Irish musicians to be proud of.
