You should knock out The Fragile & The Downward Spiral soon.
Maybe throw Year Zero since you've been all about the beatzzzz recently

I like their more BEATZy stuff the most. I am really bad with song titles but I went through my girlfriends ipod in her car picking the song titles I liked the most and listening to them. I have access to their whole catalog thanks to her.

I remember she once put in a CD once and I really liked it all the way through. I have no idea which album it was though.....
Also, its funny people are putting down Ghosts a little, because thats what got me really looking at NIN when it was posted on the pre-ILF Devi forums. I understand that anyone one of us could've made an album like Ghosts... but who fucking cares? The complexity and skill it takes to make a piece of music shouldn't hinder someone from enjoying it. I don't know, like I see what people mean when they say that, but at the same time I think it is a silly excuse for not liking an album or a song.

Listened to the Fragile. Loved La Mer and really enjoyed most of the album. "Somewhat Damaged" and "The Wretched" weren't really my thing, I think might enjoy Trent's calmer/reflective songs as opposed to the obvious heavy ones. I can appreciate the heavy ones in an album context but I wouldn't go back and listen to them individually. But damn, the drum part in La Mer really ruffled my jimmies, gat damn.
Anywho my girlfriend gave me year zero and with teeth along with the fragile for starters. She said most of the songs I listened to and dug were on those three.
And that concludes Jared getting to know bands that he should have known a long time ago.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I was disappointed Underneath it all wasn't a No Doubt cover.

Yeah, La Mer is pretty fantastic. I love the reappearance of the main motif on Into the Void as well.
& Somewhat Damaged is the pinnacle of catharsis for me. Screaming that shit feels so good.

If you don't pay attention to the lyrics;
Even Deeper is one of my favorite songs....
Of course
Just Like You Imagined is a little played out thanks to
300 but I love that song along with Starfuckers, Inc. The ending of Starfuckers is awesome.
There is some excellent shit on The Slip too. Seriously Fuzzed out and some Baritone and or Bass 6 work on there as well.
Check it yo.

I really wish I had had a chance to see the lineup in the Rehearsals video but I was in a different space that didn't really included NIN back in 08. I had forgotten my roots and was still in Hippy Jamband Mode.

Starfuckers pisses me off so damn much. The music is so awesome, but the lyrics do not fit with the theme of the album and it interupts the flow of the album for me

Also, Jared, since you're into the beatzzz check out the last two tracks of the Slip as well, Demon Seed in particular is quite awesome.
Also also, Trent did a radio interview and said the new album is more electronic in nature. So yeah.

That must be what the guys who made the Music for him to sing over told him... "Hey Trent this one's more like that EDM kids are into"...

Haha I'm curious as to why you keep saying others made the music? I'm not trying to come off with any attitude or anything, legitimately curious.

Read any magazine article from like '93 on... He's just the face and the idea... The albums you guys keep mentioning were created by the hired help... It's like that with a lot of bands but the image of Trent sitting in a studio plugging in a Metasonix Scrotum Smasher into a 4ms Atoner to get that perfect level of crunch on the Bass is just not what happens... It's the same for a lot of bands all throughout the modern history of recording but the whole Trent does this and makes that is silly... If he wants to come on and dispute or hire a Walter to come on argue that's cool but articles and pics and hearsay prove otherwise...

I've always listened to
Starfuckers out of album context.
The one song that struck me as being out of place is the title track. It's a really delicate song; and a song that I like a lot; but it's sandwich between some intensity. Perhaps Juxtaposition was on (My now shattered view of [Thanks SoniSombrero; you are now an asshole

]) Trent's mind?
Also; am I really the only person that doesn't put any stock in lyrics other than does the melody fit the tune? I mean yeah singing about annoying shit is annoying but beyond; if the vocals aren't abrasive or out of tune and the subject matter isn't full of hatred towards anything other than corporations and the government, isn't misogynistic, or about acquiring "Benjamins". Read between the lines; I'm talking about Neo Nazi (what is their damage) and Mainstream Hip Hop shit here (not sure if that shit is all about the Bitches and the Cheddar anymore); I don't wanna hear it.
/whiteguy
But other than that; Trent can sing about fucking all he wants.

I often agree and I appreciate vocals / lyrics for their aesthetic properties most of the time, but if lyrics make me notice how poor they are, then it starts to takes away from the song for me. & really the lyrics to Starfuckers aren't his worse by a long shot, they just don't fit.

Yeah I guess the subject matter of Starfuckers is a little hackneyed and tired but I can identify with the whole anti celebrity whorship thing. I hate celebrities and our cultural obsession with them.
And the Carly Simon "You're so vain" nod feels a little tacked on.
I also note that Into the Void is a reprise of La Mer. Not sure how I feel about that.
