i took the covers off the p90s on my cheap casino reissue because when i rest my right palm on the bridge pickup the string would always click on the cover, super annoying
but the covers were soldered on so i had to get creative

i already trimmed
as much as i can fron the bottoms
so im gonna have to either file a bunch
or break out the grinder
could also rout a bit of a pocket
i think imgonna go option D
and do nothin
theres not many times
wher i play the bottom all gentle anyway
none of the others have any buzz at this point
and if i were to play lightly
it would be on the lighter strings
but i dont play lightly
im a freakin tough guy
i pick with a framing hammer
and fret with freddy kreuger claws

I used that baking soda nut repair on an old JM I had and it lasted four years with no issue. Not sure how it's doing now as I sold it long ago but four years was way more success than I'd expected.

And WOW, over a quarter inch, that's madness!!! Good on you getting as low as you have. The nut slots and saddles are all good? Neck angle is right? After truss rod tweaking and lowering that bridge, those are some of the only possible suspects left in regards to that buzz.

I always string up, check truss rod and adjust if necessary for minimal relief, then shoot for 4/64s on both bass and treble sides. So far every guitar I own can get there minus buzz and that setup feels sooooooooo good to me. I hate when I get a guitar I couldn't play first that won't setup the same. Usually, it won't be a keeper cuz I've grown so accustomed to the low action and lack of buzz.

So I voted no;...but this thread inspired me to figure out setting string height and intonation, plus a little knowledge I culled from talking to setup guys in the past.

Just working on this MIM P-Bass in standard,...which is a pretty simple set up.

Before I moved on in the deal; I looked at the neck relief by fretting the same string at the first and octave frets. Relief is good enough for me.

When I got the bass,...the saddle's heights were tilted; so I straightened them out; then raised each saddle till the string didn't buzz against the fingerboard too excessively (I like a little buzz when I dig in).

I don't quite have the hang of setting the intonation. I just used a TU-2 but I think I got close enough. The bass sounds better than when I first got it.

Used AA's testimonial as my guide as I don't have any gauges. I had no choice but to go by feel and ear. It's definitely playing better than when I got it home. Going to keep working on the intonation.

I usually do my own setups. The only thing I'm ever leery of is turning the truss rod; thankfully, the necks on my Warwicks are rock solid and as such, rarely need any turning. The times I have taken them in to get set up are usually those times when I'm gigging so much I just don't have the time to do it. For example, I'm currently in the middle of a 3 week, 25 show/rehearsal run. There is no time to get a bass set up if I need to, so I'd rather spend the money to have someone else do it.

Anybody have some good links for set-up tutorials? I try my best on my own but I'm always terrified of shit like the truss rod.

This is the first of 4 vids that I used as a reference for figuring out what tools I want to get and how to use them.

There is a basic setup too kit from Stew Mac: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Measu ... p_Kit.html

But at nearly $100 I feel like it's way overpriced. The understring radius gauges are the selling point but from the research I've done people are saying that they are unnecessary.

So I've been looking around town for a 4R Machinist's Rule and haven't had any luck. I'm spending my morning prowling Amazon for a 4R Machinists Rule and a set of feeler gauges from PEC.

EDIT:

PEC 6" 4R Rigid Machinist Rule:
http://www.amazon.com/PEC-Rigid-Steel-R ... inist+rule

PEC Feeler Gauge:
http://www.amazon.com/PEC-Feeler-Gages- ... eler+Gauge

I have two more places to check in town that are closed on weekends before I place the order. Looking for instant gratification and buying locally but I tried finding these items at Lowes, Home De Pot and Sears without much luck. If I were an actual machinist I'd get products from Starrett,...but since this is literally just a hobby/learning situation for me; I can't really justify paying 3x as much for these tools.
