yahpers. just got an email too. cool that he's not just doing different flavors of fuzz, but i've never really dug on compressors.

"A simple control interface allows you to change the threshold, compression ratio and makeup gain."
size is great, and the barbershop has a great clean sound.
will be interested in this one, i like a light compressor on for clean sounds

Me too!
That would be my comp of choice.
But I would like to hear it first as I'm not a comp type of guy.
I never tried a comp that I like.

Chank, what will you use the comp for?
Maybe a good example will help me understand...
I always say that I don't like comp... because it feel weird with my playing.
I like dynamics in my playing.
Maybe I'm missing something?

Well, like you, I'm still not totally sold on compressors. I've been fooling around with one, but still prefer lots of gain to achieve the sustain I'm looking for. Not really sure this compressor is what I need for more sustain, but it's worth a try.
Yeah, I agree compressors feel strange with my playing. As do some overdrives or EQs that compress my signal is weird ways.
I'm a big fan of dynamics too, but to achieve the sustain I'm looking for, I realize I'm gonna have to make a bit of a compromise in terms of feel.
I also like compression/sustain because I like playing harmonics and it helps to make the harmonic really stand out.
So, compressor aren't for everyone, but they're interesting to mess around with. Hope that answers your question, syl.

if you set the compression amount just before you hear it start to squash the level on chords, it evens out the volume drop between single notes/chords and balances up the sound a little between the different strings.
you can still get plenty plenty dynamic range and playing, but i feel it is a bit more defined and crisper

Jfet feedback would mean Orange Squeezer, right? I have been partial to dyna comps and others that provide some mega squish. I look at compressor more as an effect than a tool. I like to use it with a vibrato, somehow those two together makes wonders, especially with some delay or something like that. With a lot of gain, it's harder to notice when one is on, but you can feel the extra sustain. They are super crazy fun behind a verb. Giant verb trails that hold forever until instantly disappearing, it's pretty rad.
I think a lot of people expect compressors to have some sort of magic that makes what you play sound better, but feel the same. I use compressor to utilize the different feel (the feel of playing with a compressor rather than without) to have a different view of what I can do and how I can play to write something new and inspired, at least that combined with their traditional uses. Which that is what the magic is. But really, you can use this scenario for every pedal but compressors seem to have this magic expected of them that they can't really provide for everyone, especially since they have much less obvious effect on the tone, over filters, gain, modulation, pretty much any other pedal. Once you get past the awkward stage of less dynamics, the you open up the whole new world of what you can do with them. Not that that is a huge world but it is definitely fun and unique. You don't expect to turn on a fuzz or a chorus and ask "Where is my clean signal?"
Not that this is directed at you, syl since you were asking about them, that's just how I feel about compressors. Pretty lame, huh?
