you have $50 & are looking for one final pedlol for the bass board - which one do you get, rat or odb3?

For me ODB-3. Rats sound very cool but standard Rats drop too much bass for bass guitar IMO and don't have the EQ and blend control of the Boss which gives you a lot more tonal options for the money. Fair warning it's very grindy on a lot of settings. Which is great! But you know, it isn't for everyone.

thanks, grind is what i'm looking for! leaning towards odb3, but the rat in question is the littleBear one w/ vintage, turbo + led modes

I have no idea how all that will affect the sound on bass TBH.

paging the rat experts...

SHOOT OUT SHOOT OUT SHOOT OUT
OT: I like the DoD "classic tube" for fattening up kicks and basslines. Full ccw on the tone is a bass boost

HM-2 is like my favorite ever. Actually, a whole bunch of Boss ones are ace. FZ-2 of course (I only played the behringer version and it rips), and OS-2 is a great drive pedal. Boss ODB-2 is also really good.
As for the specific question, I don't think you could get an HM-2 for 50 bucks, but an ODB-2 would be very good. I have not played bass with a rat but I've heard its awesome. Although I would guess the regular ol' rat2 you get today would not do you a lot of favors on bass now. I'd go with the boss option

Oh hell yeah HM-2 on bass is great if you could find one for the price. Which nowadays sadly isn't a thing I don't think.

Definitely an ODB-3 - I love that cool yellow!
I love Rats and I have a vintage sick flat box sick chip one but I rarely use it on bass. It's cool.... but it's not my go to. An ODB-3 is like a swiss army knife for bass players.
I keep thinking about buying that Wren & Cuff 25v Overdrive but then I'm like.... It's so pricey and I'd probably just wind up using the Boss more and it's already yellow!

Cheap HM-2’s are Craigslist and pawnshop domain lately, neither of which seems to be happening with the plague.
$50 Carcosas are still a thing if you look. I was happy paying $100 new, picked up a backup at $50 with no hesitation. Definitely belongs in this thread.

For every $400 HM-2 on Reverb there’s a guy in the suburbs selling one for $85. Patience is the key....
