you got any reccomendations for a good beginner board? I wear anywhere from an 11.5 to a 13 depending on the kicks.

DAAAAAMN big feet. So you're definitely going to want something a little wider.
Can't really help you with a recommendation beyond seeing if you'd rather ride street or more of a longboard ('cause you're talking two different beasts at that point). To me, a skateboard is a skateboard is a skateboard--it's the wizard, not the wand you know?
Just make sure it's wide enough for dem feets.

I'm 6', 270lbs. When I used to skate, I rode a Girl Brian Anderson deck that was 8.5" x 32". It always treated me well.
Also, this thread is giving me massive shoe lust. Scoping these Macbeths and hoping my thick feet will fit.

I do want some boots though.

You should not ride a too small board. The width should be somewhere between 8 to 8.5, depending on what you find comfortable. I ride 8.5 with 8 in shoe size. But a lot of people think it is too big,
Make sure you get some trucks that are similarly wide, better turning and flow.
Also you cant go wrong with Real, Krooked and Anti Hero when it comes to quality.
Indenpendent trucks, and wheels around 51-54? Better to invest in some good bearings than having them crap out on you. Bones reds or Bones swiss!
Sorry for nerding out...

I feel your pain, I range from 12-14 depending on brand/style. Zappos is a lifesaver in that regard (I assume every knows about them now, it's been ~10 years, but whatever). I just order like 8 pairs of shoes in 13-14 since they have free shipping both ways and keep whatever works best. Their prices are usually a little higher than real stores, but the convenience & selection is worth it to me.
If you want relatively cheap but quality boots, Chippewa GQ's or Katahdins are pretty nice. I'm rocking some tan GQ's at the moment.
I also really want to try skateboarding but I have no one to skate with (which is like half the point, right?) and would be way too intimidated by all the 12 year olds at the skate park that would be a million times better than me.

that GQ is a sweet boot
maybe too cool for me though
150 seems pretty steep though for no airbags in the heel

Let's make this official, because I'm a big fat fatty and can't go into the fitness thread just to look at shoes.
Also, if that first pair of Macbeths could be red with a gum sole, I would do horrible things for them.

Love 'em. In the Summer, I rock my Supras:

I don't put my laces through that "flap" part, though.
