The drone/soundscape creates incredible atmosphere, perfect for what the movie is trying to achieve. Not sure the rest of the movie is as successful...
Hey! I just watched that movie on accident, and I agree about the soundtrack. Impressed me very much. And I actually dug the movie as a whole quite a bit. Just really quiet, and kinda visceral.
Also, here's a pretty cool interview with Johnny Jewel (Glass Candy/Chromatics, Chromatics IS MY JAM) talking about movies and music and working with that director (Nicolas Winding Refn) on Drive.
EDIT: lulz, I forgot to post the dang link: http://www.boxoffice.com/articles/2011- ... -for-drive
Cool! And agreed on Valhalla Rising, I just recently watched it a second time b/c I thought I might have been, err, a little influenced by my recreational hobbies and remembering it to be better than it actually is. But I did really dig it, really foreboding and understated...which I can see some people taking as boring or slow. Idiots
And just recently saw Drive, which I found very entertaining and enjoyed far more than I thought I would. Don't particularly remember the soundtrack, but that damn jacket he wears the whole film, I'll never forget that...
