I want to get my hands on an 8 string just for the expanded reach. I don't really play well with others anymore, so I'd be interested in open tunings, and using the low and high end to compliment a full sound. But that's just me. anyways if i ever got an 8 string, it'd be for trying out lute-y tunings and other fun stuff. because how literally everyone else uses a 7 string is just to ride on the low string like its Channing Tatum's kawk, rather than using it's range as a means to shift how you think about a stringed instrument or w/e. or noodly tappytap stuff.
to me an instrument's range has minimal impact on it's expression, and people who think so are wrong.
