yea they are really drilling the marketing speak into the ground.
digital shit is actually really fucking cool, but all anyone (anyone refers to the everyman majority consumer i suppose) is relaly interested in, in the digital world, is approximations of analog gear or gear that ppl already made.
not enough ppl (although there are some, I SEE YOU OUT THERE WHODIE!) are pushing the limits of the digital world, and coming up w/ new concepts,fx,etc...
wheres the fucking new NEW shit, i dont care about another VST or app that does 808 drum sounds or (insert your own reference here).

A large part of the problem is that guitarists and bassists as a general group are insanely regressive and nostalgic. Most of them don't WANT new sounds. They want to sound like it's 1965 (or 1969, or pick whatever year you want).

agreed: For the most part we are terrified of new tech. but part of the problem is that even the new tech is just trying to recreate old sounds. I would love to see a digital distortion pedal that instead of trying to model an 808 or a rat actually tried to get it's own forward thinking sound.

Can I add to the list companies with the word "tone" in their name? I'm so sick of all the Superior Tone Pedals, and the God's Prefered Tone Effects, or any other name referring to the builder's exclusive knowledge of what true tone is. I feel like too many builders take themselves too seriously. It's just a damn pedals.
Oh, and while I'm kind of near the same neighborhood of the subject... how come there is always such a great debate cloning... especially part-for-part clones of pedals, but no one ever gives two shits about the subject in the amp/guitar/synth world?
I actually sold my Megalith.
The ONLY pedal that I have that cost close to 300 right now is the Okko Basstard. That motherfucker is worth the money. Not saying others aren't, but some that I've gotten in higher price ranges left a lot to be desired. For 300 bucks it better be pro as fuck. That's all I'm saying. More than 300, it better be blowing me the fuck away.
There are a TON of fuzzes that just destroy for under 300 too. Which btw, I'm guess I'm talking used prices because I've only paid over 300 for a few new. Megalith used...best investment ever. SO MUCH FUZZ. SO MUCH. FUCK!!!!!!
I do want a B7K, but that's almost 400 and it's an OD. lol Fuck that. Maybe...

Totally agree about the uses of digital gear. And for that matter, how analog gear is made is just the same, hardly anyone is trying new stuff in either field. I don't know what a new type of effect would sound like, but I sure as hell want one.

This thread is correct. Every post thus far is super correct.
I fucking hate the following (not looking at anyone Earthbound Audio):
1) Clone a pedal that has been cloned to death
2) Add a 3 way diode switch
3) Call it creative and new
I couldn't play without my TB loop strip, but I use it in a very different way than the usual TGP one loop for each pedal way. Can make and post a diagram if anyone is interested... it will be detailed...

one trend I would end is boutique builders....was nice when I could just go look at a wall of Boss/Line6/Digitech and think that I was looking at every sound in the world.

Yah. It's really not that expensive to build a RAT or a Muff. When you start adding mods and switches and this and that is when it gets to be a different story!
