after recently coming into a bit of unfair modding on a heavily modded site (not just too much bannings, they're dicks about it as well) i can say that y'all are bitches about complaining about ILF mods.

anyways its not so much that words have power (they do), so much as words have history. words have context, words mean different things to different people. and the feaux-progressive notion of "words dont have power" not only ignores all that, but it also ignores the basic crux on how discussion WORKS.

Cuz I'm not really into feeding young people ideas how the N word is something bad. I know it has context, but why nurture the idea that pushed it into bad context? After all, people have different meanings for different words, even though they may be similar, the meaning can be something entirely different. If people didn't know those contexts, they wouldn't fight. You think that children differ themselves by color or nationality? Nope, their parents do. So why feed the negative? You kill a witch when you stop believing (forget) about her.

We're all citizens of planet Earth. That's the only thing that matters. We're all in this together. There is no separation, except the one we put in our head.

The current trendy ones that I see a lot are aimed at immigrants [from latin america mostly] and people from the middle east. Moving from one thing to another. It's certainly not as outright than the past in most cases. I think animosity towards immigrants has less to do with race than a general conservative strategy of blowing certain issues totally out of proportion. The fact that most illegals are hispanic certainly plays into it, but it's not the only part of that issue.

The worst thing is American views towards Arabs/Persians/other ethnicities within the Muslim world. Some people really don't understand that not all Muslims are out to get us.

But there's all sorts of intolerance. For example: I'm a progressive and most of my friends are rather liberal, but I get so embarrassed when they start talking about how ALL religions are bad, because they ALL spread hate and ALWAYS cause wars. Then they talk about how they're soooo much smarter and more rational even though they just made these overblown, completely irrational claims that could never be proven using proper logic.

Meh, what'cha gonna do Like alexa said, we just gotta teach the kids the right thing and wait for everybody else to die.

i believe we're allowed to have differences of opinion, and my opinion remains that though the mods here are generally quite laissez-faire, it's still painfully lame in the 21st century to blank out (eyeroll) "the N word" or to change pronouns in a post so Devi Ever, of all people, won't have her feelings hurt. if, as the deconstructionists love to claim, words mean only what the user wishes them to mean, shut up with this BS already and leave people to talk, even if they express themselves in ways i wouldn't myself because my mother taught me to have better manners than that. the behavioral horse is already out of the gate, kids. and nobody has the right not to be offended, or not to have their precious wittle feelings hurt.

Your're right. You should start your own forum and run it that way. If you think you're eye rolling and condescension is a form of good manners, then you either didn't listen to your mother, or she did terrible job of teaching them to you.
