yeah, like...a Budweiser box for a kick drum, and some pieces of pipe.

Bringing this back because I'm in a bit of a quandry with drums.

I'd like to get a super minimal kit (snare, hat, ride, bass) but I live in an apartment.

I've decided nylon brushes are going to be my best friend for this, but the bass drum situation still has me stumped.

This will be solely for recording purposes so right now I'm thinking I could get something like.....

Maybe put some rubber feet on the bottom, put a thick wool sock on, mic it, then go EQ crazy? Since this isn't anything like a foot pedal I don't know if holding down a complex beat would be tougher. Maybe I would have a hard time transitioning if I actually built up any skills, and got an opportunity to play a real bass drum.....

Not that something like that would stop me, but something I've thought about.

Has anyone had success with other bass drum alternatives? Seems like my most viable option at the moment.

Seems like a cheap and worthy experiment. I'd say go for it. Necessity is the mother of creativity.

Maybe something like this so you can use a real pedal?

Though I suppose that depends on your apartment and neighbors. I have a friend who used to use a completely electric kit in his apartment and he still got complaints about the kick drum...
