I'd love one, but I saw one at NAMM last year and they are massive. Absolutely fucking MASSIVE. Not sure if I could gig with something that big, and I don't play in any bands that really need 300 watts.

Still planning on getting one eventually. :joy:

maz91379 wrote:So I need a giant wall of bass cabs for this too. Can you harm a guitar amp's speakers with bass if it's running into both a bass cab and guitar cab? Like since my amp only has 2 -8 ohm outs and a 16 out i'd need to run into 2-8 ohm cabs (fine but more expensive) or a 16 ohm cab which isnt easily found. My guitar cab splits into 2 "stereo" 8ohm cabs so that would be easy if it didnt fry the guitar speaker. I could replace that one with a pa speaker that sounds good with guitar or replace both and not get a cab but idk.... Dammit i should of just kept my sovtek it had selectable ohm outs : ( .

If your head is an orange DO NOT USE 2 8 OHM cabs!!!!! I use an ad200b its got 1 8ohm and 2 4 ohm outputs, if you read the owners manual it can only handle 4 or 8 ohm TOTAL load. If yours is a guitar head the 2 8 ohm outputs is meant as 2 outputs at 8ohms total meaning 2 x 16ohm cabs one in each output. You could use 1 8 ohm cab plugged into either output but not 2 8 ohm cabs plugged into both. Orange does some weird things with their heads and i miss my selectable output impedance also but once you understand what they got going on its pretty easy.

If your mic'd at EVERY gig it doesnt matter at all, in reality you can't rely on getting mic'd at every gig. So it is relevant.

This thread is making me shop for more tube heads that I don't need. Por ejemplo, there's a Trace Elliot V6 for sale on TalkButt right now. Somebody else needs to buy it. My Trace V-Type (aka V4) is one of the few pieces of gear I own that I will never sell. NEVER.

8 ohm bass cabs are fairly easy to find.

Oh, and warwick, you're never coming back from the tubes dude.

You can always rewire the cabs if your a handy DIY kinda guy. Say you have a 4x10 4 ohm cab, if its using 4 ohm speakers you can wire all of them in series to make it into 16ohms. or if you have a parallel wired 2 speaker cab thats 4 ohms (which means it has 8 ohm speakers) you can rewire it series for 16 ohms.

This website has alot of useful info: http://www.jumbosunshade.com/swd01.htm

SVT, mesa 400+, Ashdown 427 (never tried one, but I love my little bastard so I imagine it sounds pretty good).

SVT and Mesa 400+ are the two that sprang to mind first.

And Maz... eight ohm cabs are way more common for bass. You're really only limited by the manufacturer and your budget.

I've seen a few meatsmokes used live. They're cool amps (and from all reports the company is seriously fantastic to deal with), but I'm not sure I'd shell out for one.

^^^ I wish Verellen would make a line of their amps that don't look like furniture, so that the amps could be somewhat tangible.
