Fuzzy Picklez wrote:Ringo is also awesome. I don't get why people rip on him. He's kind of goofy at time, but his drumming is so musical, that if you took away all of the other instruments from a beatles song, you could tell what song it is. He's also got style.

I don't think that's even him on a lot of the later recordings. :idk:

I just don't see it. If anything I think he's pretty bad.

its because there was a youtube video of him doing some basic-ass marching drum rudiments and everyone thought he was hot shit.

McCartney plays on some tracks, but I'm pretty sure it's mostly Ringo.
McCartney's drumming is way more barbaric than Ringo's.

Didn't Harrison lay down alot of drum tracks too? Or am I making that up?

If he did, I'm totally unaware of it.

nah, Ringo played on damn near everything if not everything.
the only drummer who has stepped up and said he played on a Beatles record was Bernard Purdie,
and he says he played on EVERYTHING.

Ringo didn't have crazy chops, but he sure wrote perfect drum parts and played with great feel on a wide variety of songs.

Alan Dawson,

But as I put in my OP,...Billy Martin would be the guy I want to emulate the most (I'm considering picking up a small drum set)

Yeah man. Chops aren't everything.

Glenn Kotche, but most jazz drummers can do some sweet beats in every genre

For sheer sound, Dave Grohl.

Yep, Eddie Bo's drummer. If that stuff doesn't move you, I don't know what will.

New Orleans is the source of so many styles of music that we now hear. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, it looks like we have similar tastes. I also like a lot of the drummers you listed, but didn't wanna get too repetitive.
