Last year I restored an Arp Odyssey. Which peaked an renewed interest in the Cmos 4000 series. Cmos and TTL logic is an amazing bridge between the world of Analog and Digital.

You are correct that you usually don't get frequency division without a flip-flop or something like it. But you can get it for a cycle or two in some audio circuits under the right conditions. Usually at the trailing edge of a decaying note or with two notes at the same time. I'm hoping we can come up with a standard test for this.

Very interesting waveforms in your results topic. You should make a little permanent website for these results too. Google sites is free and easy to setup via page templates or custom layouts. Good work and idea!

I have a couple dirt pedals to send you results of later tonight maybe - 1980 pre-LED MXR Distortion+, 1982 tan Ross R50 Distortion, DOD YJM308 Preamp Overdrive 1458-based gray spec 250 modded, and my own gray spec 741-based 250 Overdrive clone. I have to watch out for the pot taper diffrences (YJM308) to get equivalent o'clock settings. I'd like to see how they all compare to each other since they are close offsprings. I also have a stock Boss DS-1 but I see that one has already be done.

please also include the DS-1 once with the already measured 12, 5, 7 o'clock setting and once with everything at noon (if it's not too much to ask). I know the taper of the pots will probably be the biggest difference, but I'd like to see if there are subtle differences between two mass produced units like these.

I love that someone has come up with a standardized way to compare output charactderistics of pedals. I'm so interested in the visual waveform graphs as a benchmark signatures of pedals.

I'm curious of everone's way they are feeding the test signal and capturing to your soundcard. I can capture output direct to my soundcard using software like Audacity. I have a USB 'powered' Line 6 Toneport GX interface that sends the output with an audio cable straight to the back of the soundcard for zero latency. I'm wondering though how are you guys physically feeding and capturing the test signal to your pedals with your computer using cabling methods? I have to look at and mess with mine when I get home but want to be consistent with what everyone else is doing for ther most accurate results.

I got FullCustomAudio's excellent Barnacle pedal and will add some of the great boost settings here soon!

Also,I just got a Ibanez LM7 (L.A. Metal) from eBay and will add it's measurements soon.

It's not as bad as many ppl claim. I got 4 useable sounds out of it (boost, med gain, higain and dark lead) and measured those.

I just added the two missing clipping diodes that the FC10 has and will check later if there's already a difference,

edit:
wow, quite a difference! can't post all the details right now, but this mini-upgrade was already worth it!

then I'll exchange all the other resistors and caps to FC10 specs.
stupidly, I forgot to order a IC socket.

when i get some time, i definitely want to contribute to this project. Mostly I'm just curious what the stuff i'm building will look like, as compared to other stuff, but I also have a boss hyperfuzz laying around here somewhere if you're interested in measuring that. My own stuff though, the fuzzboxes i've been building lately, well there's rather a large range of different sounds i can get out of them, spose i can just send you quite a few files to play with. Basically they are just a double bazz circuit with a couple weird little modifications, an adjustable feedback loop, and separate voltage sag controls (one for each bazz stage) Not entirely sure which settings would be most useful there.

I've been trying to add a Hyperfuzz to the database, but so far I didn't get any files.
While it would be nice to have a HF, getting custom made stuff, like you are hinting at, is the best! :animal: :!!!: :love:

I guess the best settings would be the ones that are most useful/dear/unique to you. If you have a Fuzz Face-like setiing in there, it might make sense to document that one as well, but if it does 'transdimensional tree frogs are chewing on my upper lip while reciting Dante backwards' - let's hear it! :)

I'm still around ;)
quite a bit happened in the last year or so...
I now work for Kemper (Profiling Amplifier) and my fuzz collection has grown considerably. Unfortunately, I don't have as much time to spend on projects like this, but if you send me a processed test tone file, I'll still post it.
